That's very...strange. I'm very glad to hear that he's back. The return at 0330 makes me believe that his disappearance was almost certainly due to malicious intent. I'll second saying have him checked out by the vet, as well as calling the police. Either may be able to give you more information on the cause of the disappearance.

Here's where I add the fun fact that CS gas does not effect dogs. And that you can occasionally find CS grenades for sale at several places. A pull-wire attached to the ring might make the thieves exit mighty quick if it deploys when the gate is opened. CS in an unconfined area will make it unpleasant, but disperses quickly, and leaves no trace. If you can't find some, a trip flare might be easier to find. Being in Florida, any boating store should have either pen or emergency flares.

There were two thoughts I had here.

1. If he's uncut, possibly there was someone with a bitch in heat in the neighborhood who wanted that particular mix and returned him after the "service" (this also fits with the amount of time gone).

2. Someone was testing him in order to fight him, and either he was of the wrong temperament or they changed their guilty mind.

Yes there are dirtbags out there that will take dogs from yards and attempt to fight them. This is essentially how we got our third dog; he has tremendous protective instincts coming in now that he's almost 2, but almost no instincts to protect himself from other dogs or challenge other dogs (however watch out if he thinks I might be threatened). So even though he has tremendous fighting ability due to breed his temperament is wrong for dog fighting. They may have taken your dog and found that he was unsuited for fighting prior to actually taking him to a fight (no one bets on an untested dog).

Excellent news! Very strange situation there. Either someone saw the ads and took a good look at the house in daylight, they read this forum, or someone's significant others guilt got the better of them. Third option wildcard (very unlikely) since the dog was groggy, it was a medical lab who was going to use it for experiments. It used to be a common practice, I'm not sure if anyone would do that any more but I thought I would put it out there.

Weird that the dog got 'napped in the first place assuming he is a good guard dog, then this... Very strange...

I would file a police report anyway. Perhaps while you are doing it your local dicks can fill you in if they have seen this before or have any clues.

That would seem to make the most sense, if they used tranquilizers. Twice.

I also liked Melody's theory too. Dog's just plain tuckered from constant relations!

No disrespect meant, but please keep him inside during the unsociable hours. I think the "early warning dog" concept has a lot of merit. I really don't like the guard dog idea at all. I'd no sooner put my dog on guard duty than I would my kids (if I had any). If it's important to you, don't leave it on the lawn outside, especially in a high crime neighborhood.

I forget who it was or if they made the transition to this iteration of the forum, but one of our members used to keep his dobermans (IIRC) in his garage at night. And a garage door opener next his bed along with his house gun and flashlight.
