The woman told officers she yelled several times for the man to get back and stop, but as he broke through her door, she swung the sword. Lockwood described the sword as about 2 feet long with a bamboo handle.
"As soon as she did that, he stopped trying to get in the door," Lockwood said.
The woman did not seem to be targeted, and the break-in appeared to be random, Lockwood said.
"We're possibly dealing with a suspect and injured person that might have limited mental capacity," he said. "It sounds like she was defending herself."
Ya think? Breaking into a random house, in Fairbanks, Alaska? That's the very definition of limited mental capacity. Personally, I think that the lady deserves a big hand for creative self defense.

There must be an end to this intimidation by those who come to this great country, but reject its culture.
He's lucky she swung at his hand/arm instead of his head/neck. What happened to him sounds like she put a little fear and anger behind the swing - too bad she didn't use a very sharp Kukri or Wakazashi (the Cold Steel Wakazashi I got for my wife is VERY sharp and holds its edge quite well, even after chopping up many items)!

Dude, that's not just Alaska. It's Fairbanks. That's way over the line from "stupid" and getting into "suicidal" territory. I spent 5 winters there for college; my dad said that it was going to take years to "fix" some of the attitudes that I picked up there. Of course, by now it has been long enough that I think one can safely say the damage was irreparable.
