those large stadiums are designed to focus acoustic energy at the field, and it's almost impossible to make it sound good on TV and sound good in the stadium.
Most producers would rather have it suck for just the TV audience, because nothing sounds good over a backdrop of boos.

I don't know if you watched the show, but there were a lot of glaring stupid errors; like mic levels for performers being set way off from each other's, random noises, background music levels being too low to hear in some spots, and drowning out the vocals in others etc...
It was like a sixth grade theater production.
