Steel toe boots are also colder than either plain toe or composite toe boots, whether insulated or not.

I have a pair of older Wolverines sorta similar to those. They've served me quite well.
I sure wish Merrell made those Shivers in X-wide. I've been looking for something like that for running out to get wood for the stove or to the mailbox without having to lace up a pair of 10" boots.

I had a pair of wolverines I was very fond of, until they caught fire while I was wearing them - still liked them, but they weren't very comfortable to wear after the sole melted...

The reason you can't find it is because he's only using half of the name for some reason =).
The chain name is Wholesale Sports Outdoor Outfitters and the linky is here.

Thanks Mel!
My 15+ year old winter Rocky boots had a catastrophic failure, so as it happens I am just now looking for replacements.

I've always liked my Sorel Caribou's:
The original and best. Since 1972, the Sorel Caribou has earned its reputation for warmth, durability and comfort the hard way: by protecting the feet of millions of Sorel customers through deep snow, harsh storms and the biting cold of long winters.
Rated to -40° below zero, the Caribou is the timeless choice for cold-weather work and recreation. The nubuck leather upper and handcrafted vulcanized rubber shell are seam-sealed for complete waterproofness and lined with a removable 9mm ThermoPlus™ felt InnerBoot that traps heat next to your foot, where it belongs. Underfoot, a thick rubber midsole insulates the boot from cold ground, while the Sorel AeroTrac™ non-loading outsole provides sure footing.
FEATURES:
* Seam-sealed waterproof construction with waterproof nubuck leather upper
* Removable 9mm ThermoPlus™ felt InnerBoot
* Sherpa Pile™ snow cuff
* 2.5mm bonded felt frost plug
* Handcrafted waterproof vulcanized rubber shell with Sorel AeroTrac non-loading outsole
* Imported

Can anyone explain that? I don't doubt it, I just can't imagine any scenarios where that would happen.CByrneIV wrote: I don't believe in steelcaps anynmore; having seen more than one unintentional amputation because of them. Composite reinforcement is the best compromise as far as I'm concerned.

Re: Put on your Shit Kickers
If you drop something heavy on composite toes, or plain toed boots, you might end up w. a smashed toe - the weakest part of a steel toe is the back, if something heavy hits it, the steel gets bent down, and cuts off the toes.
As for the boots on fire - just typical farm boy stuff - we had been burning brush, it got a little hairy, and in the process of putting everything out, I ended up standing a little too long on some coals, which I had thought were extinguished. The only really humorous part was probably me running around trying to get my boots out - burning rubber doesn't really respond too well to just water, and there wasn't really a place to take them off.
