I don't need help finding "casual" woman - hence the looking for "decent" women bit... I apparently become relatively charming while drunk - even in the opinion of my friends' wives...

As for asking Dad... He and Mom were engaged in their teens, and married by 21 - its actually funny how little he knows about women, other than Mom.

THAT right there is a HUGE clue about why he's been married for so long!!

Hell, WOMEN don't even understand women, so how the HELL are MEN supposed to understand women when they can't even understand themselves??? Even my wife agrees on these principals!

NOBODY can understand women, so your best bet is to find one who understands YOU, and you understand her to a SIGNIFICANT degree (since NO ONE can understand a woman more than another woman, and even THEY can't understand each other), then ALWAYS keep in mind that they operate on FEELINGS (one of the WORST reasons to have them voting) instead of logic and reasoning. They really are a mess (my wife agrees), with reason/logic at completely opposite ends of their decision-making ability - so what do they do? They start crying, and don't know why, and any male in the near vicinity instantly feels guilty 'cause they've been trained by years of conditioning to believe that if a woman's crying, they're at fault somehow.

If an when you find a woman who likes hardware stores, guns, shooting, fishing, eating seafood, and camping - you've hit the jackpot and NEVER let her outta' your sight! (my wife loves all of that but the fishing and seafood - you find your OWN awesome woman!! ).

As to the "fun time" vs. "serious interest" woman thing- if you know enough to tell one from the other you should be fine. (That's the hard part for many people I know- they confuse being horny with being "in love".)

Since you seem to have that under control, then just be yourself. Seriously. Acting natural and at ease with yourself will tend to put normal healthy people with good instincts (the kind of girl you're looking for) at ease with you. Don't rush things. Get to know the girl, and let her get to know you. Trust your instincts, don't over-analyze. Depending on the girl, she may ask you out first. I really can't think of anything special you need to do...

Also, these things tend to happen in the strangest of ways. Usually, you'll find 'the right one' when you aren't looking for her. God knows, I wasn't looking for a wife when I met Jennifer! But, we instantly clicked and have been inseparable ever since. If you aren't 'looking' in mixed social situations, women confuse that for 'confidence' which they find very attractive.

As to the next step in life, the number one secret to a long and happy marriage is this: GROW TOGETHER. I've seen way too many seemingly good marriages come to an end because they grew apart. She was off doing her thing and he was off doing his. At some point, they came back around each other and found they had nothing in common anymore. It's the saddest thing ever. Always find common interests and activities, whether it's cooking, shooting, raising koi, hacking Linux, tuning cars, tracking fashion, watching sports, SCUBA diving, knitting, whatever. It doesn't matter just as long as you can enjoy it together. At the end of the day, you'll find that you have more in common than before. Then, your friends will roll their eyes because the two of you are so sickeningly cute together. But, I'm getting way ahead of the scope of this thread, so I'll chill out now.

Edit - Oh, and always remember to keep the lines of communication open. Plain speech and easy understanding can take work, but there's no easier replacement for hours and hours of marriage counseling.
