I really like it. Did you intend the description of the aliens to evoke images of Alien (the film)?

Absolutely. I'm very deliberately hinting at Aliens, at least in this section. Course, these guys would mow through xenomorphs like lions through a girl scout troop.
Also, my mental image of John looks just like Michael Biehn (Corporal Hicks). Hence the comment amount shotguns for close encounters.

Physically, he's based on a classmate of mine. 5'8 and all of 160 lbs soaking wet. Short, curly black hair, kinda mousy looking.

I just loved the idea of having a badass who is, one, constantly bewildered and never quite knows how he did anything afterwards, and second, as physically unimposing as possible while still believable.

5'7" and 170 (should be 160) with black curly hair here. Makes me like this even more.

Just starting part 5 today. Had midterms last week and this week has a bit of time eaten up with winter preparations. I'd guess I'll have part five done tomorrow.
