Okay. Can you still buy that Chinese stuff today? I don't have the SKS anymore, but it would be nice to have something that effective to shoot out of an AK-clone.
As long as they aren't designated as "Armor-Piercing" or some other legislator-scary lexicon, like TRACER or something designed to defeat cop car doors, cop car windows, cop vests (even though most all center-fire rifle rounds will go right through a II-A vest, WITHOUT a ballistic trauma plate).
I have a sneaky suspicion that the ammo the Hollywood robbers used weren't really DESIGNED as (black-tipped) armor piercing ammo, rather than steel-cored ammo normally used in Sov-Bloc countries and available in great quantity - that they had certain armor-piercing qualities was secondary to their use as ball ammo.
BE, personally, I don't have ANYTHING that shoots Chicom/Sovcom ammo, and I haven't found it to be a hindrance no matter where I want to buy ammo. Almost EVERYONE still stocks .308/7.62x51mm and .223/5.56x45mm on their shelves - even if it isn't the perfect ammo, it usually suffices for the short term. If I was trying to use a Commie caliber, could I be expecting such a easily available supply of ammo as if I was using a US caliber? I understand they have flooded the market with Sov/Chicom weapons, but that still doesn't mean the smaller stores are going to stock their ammo (unless they were selling enough to make a good profit). But seeing as you already own an AK clone, you might want to make sure you have enough on hand, at least until you can take the extra ammo from those you've killed to replenish your own stocks of ammo (and I'd be more than happy to help you dispose of those commie bodies!! All the while making sure my wife is covering us using good 'ol .308 Win/7.62x51mm).
I haven't owned or used a Sov/Comm bloc weapon so far, and who knows, I just might change my views - but right now I don't see that happening any time soon.
