I've only had occasion to try one of their beers; they're a bit harder to find here, but we have two brewfests going on in the next two weekends. I'll try to find them there.

I generally find that Arf alone is enough to cause GI distress.

Mmm. Sangria. I like it on a hot day. But just wait until you try the Portuguese version with white wine (I forget what they call it), or German Erdbeerbowle with decent sparkling wine. Of course, the Italians like to slice ripe peaches into their desert wine. Mmm.

PBR is pretty good compared to the crap my Dad drank, mostly Piels and Schmidts, and Old Bohemian when I was a little kid. Ugh, vile stuff.

Anyone know what Bud Lite has in common with intercourse in a canoe in the middle of a lake? both are f**king close to water.

My personal preference is for one of the Sam Adams beers, and I also like Troeg's micro-brews, especially their Hop Back ale and Troegenator Double Bock.

Schaefer. First beer I ever tasted- that's what my dad drank. For a long time I was convinced I didn't like beer. Could be worse, I have a friend whose father drinks nothing but Ballantine. That's foul.

Sam Adams is nice, especially the seasonal specialty brews. As someone mentioned, I'm also partial to Newcastle. Or a good porter or stout. We have a local brewery near here where the brewer is German-trained, and they make a really nifty weissbier. It all depends on the weather, my mood, and what I'm eating (or not).

On sangria - I was there when I was like seventeen. It took me years after that to find out how much contempt the locals held our group in. "Corn and beans are what you feed to pigs and Americans." And they were served at every buffet. I don't blame them for having an attitude for most of the group. A lot of those kids were there to get plastered and chase tail. I was one of the few that actually wanted to learn stuff and experience the trip. It seems that I keep on learning about that trip.

Now, because of Lord Combover's strip club law, they're mostly gone(either converting to a regular bar/club, or becoming a bikini bar), which means if you want to see the goods, you gotta cross a bridge.

I don't know what bridge you're crossing, but this side of the Hudson the only way you can "see some goods" is if you're drinking soda(O.K. there are some BYOB places, but in general all the places here are "bikini" bars).

Apropos of nothing, back in the day when I was younger and stupider, I bought a fifty year old bottle of French cognac. Back in the barracks, I cracked the bottle and the aroma was nirvana to my nose. Poured some and sipped, and it was all right. Probably the best I had ever sipped up to that point.

Yes, I was a somewhat snobby little twit in those days.

Well, I offered some to a co-worker and watched, stunned, as he took the bottle and chugged half of it.

I never made that mistake again.

Yeah. I offered my neighbor a taste of a really good sipping tequila that I had at the time. I'm sure it wasn't as expensive as your 50-yo cognac, but it was really expensive for my income at the time. She shot it and commented on how smooth it was.
