Does a 380 or 32 out-penetrate a 22 Mag? For his purposes, the real goal is reliably penetrating the dog's cranium.

I've run some rounds through a friend's PF-9, and I'm pretty impressed with it, considering what you get for the price. Around here they sell for around $300, or a little less. If I was in your situation, I think it would be on my short list of options.

I wonder if a Taurus Judge in .410 with the combined shot and disk loading would be good for a dog confrontation.
Buy ammunition and magazines.

I waited til now because I didn't want to sound like the P3AT fanboy that I am some times accused of being.

Every time I exercise, I wear a pair of shorts with a cargo pant side pocket with velcro top fold. P3AT drops right in with its kydex pocket holster. I will admit that I don't jog, but lifting, biking, eliptical, playing volleyball have all gone swimmingly and the access is super convenient.

The GF does the same. Although she often opts out if I am along. Something about her comfy work out pants being too big around the waist and the gun might cause her pants to ...

My honest concern with the P3AT and a dogs head, would not be penetration but ability to hit it beyond 15 feet as the dog charges.

my research shows
hornady XTP 90gr .380 with 4 inch barrel -- 1000fps 200 lb/ft 11" ballistic gel penetration
so in a P3AT call it 800 fps and 150 lb/ft and say 7-8 inches penetration

Remington .22 WMR 40 gr with 6" barrell -- 1400 fps 180 lb/ft 12" ballistic gel penetration
NAA mini mag call it 1000 fps and 120 lb/ft and 8-9 inches penetration

for the simplicity, that I already carry it as a bug and I know it well; I would go with the P3AT but YMMV

Governor Perry found a .380 adequate for a coyote, I imagine it should be OK for other dogs. The Kel-Tec P3AT or the Ruger LCP should be light enough to carry for this.

what? No recommendations for an old Model Vaquero with fullhouse 45 Colt Ruger pressures handloads pushing 255gr Keith SWC's carried in a Simply Rugged Chesty Puller chest rig? One way or another: Kill 'em, Blind 'em or Burn 'em.

You're training right? Throw on some kevlar and SAPI plates while you're at it.

Go heavy or go home. ;)

That's for wimps.. If you insist on a Single Action..

As for the NAA... They're difficult to shoot, and I've heard they're unreliable. That alone puts it into the "No" pile for me.
