Tools Still Made in the USA?

The place for general talk about gun, shooting, loading, camping, survival, and preparedness related tools and gear, as well as gear technology discussion, gear reviews, and gear specific "range reports" (all other types of gear should be on the back porch).

Tools Still Made in the USA?

Post by JAG2955 »

So today I picked up a 5" Wilton multi-purpose vise, which I thought was still made in the good ole USofA. Turns out in the fine print that it says it was made in China to Wilton specifications. When I buy a tool I really expect it to last me the rest of my life, and well into the next generation or two. I used to buy Craftsman, but I think I heard somewhere that they now have most of their stuff done by China. What's left?

I do a lot of research at work on machinery and processes for printing and such. It's hard to find ANYthing made in the US anymore.

Cool, I thought Briggs & Stratton engines were still made here! So are the majority of Craftsman hand tools (you need to check the fine print).

Last I head from a vendor rep, Armstrong tools are still made in the USA.

Wilton still makes their line of industrial vises in the USA, and as far as I can tell the quality is still as it should be. In recent years they have also added a line of budget priced vises made in China. These also carry the Wilton name, but I'm not sure how anyone could mistake one for the other at even a casual glance. The low, low price compared to the hundreds that they charge for the real thing should have been your first clue.

Since the U.S. decided to no longer have a manufacturing and production based economy, it's difficult to find anything made in the US, from American parts.

The best option for me, then, is Craftsman. Their 100% no-questions-asked guarantee for full product replacement, even in cases of clear misuse, means that the have an incentive to keep quality high.
And may I say, from a moral point of view, I think there can be no justification for shoving snack cakes up your action.

If their commercials on the Outdoor Channel are to be believed, Henry Rifles are still made in the US. GFW website doesn't include firearms
The use of the word "but" usually indicates that everything preceding it in a sentence is a lie.
E.g.:
"I believe in Freedom of Speech, but". . .
"I support the Second Amendment, but". . .
