Umm what wolves , its usually the three S rule, problem bears are the same.
Wolves usually don't eat people , it gets them killed , and when they try, we shoot them.
Usually , not always , the only thing that keeps wolves on the right side of the fence is logic and reason , and when they step over well , dead wolves don't reproduce .

The fly in the ointment is the new comers so many of them are not bright , specifically,
we have all these ###### pilgrim , do good'er environmentalists who want life to be like Walt Disney. Saw one of these people last year in Haines Alaska sneaking up on a cow moose, the hair on the back of the cow was standing straight up , the lady was I suspect trying to commune with the moose,I suspect that the moose ran off , because I didn't see any any thing in the paper about local moron gets stomped by moose.

Natural selection should have taken care of these people a long time ago , why are they still here ?

Because the GOVERNMENT has decided they need to protect these idiots from themselves and the 'DANGERS' of Alaska, after all, THEY VOTE and enough of them could swing an election.

Personally, I'm disgusted at all the ways the government tries to legislate ways for them so they can protect ourselves FROM our own stupid decisions. In reality a LOT of it boils down to blood-sucking LAWYERS who have no shame in NOT pointing out their own client's STUPIDITY, instead taking the dhimmicrap's way out and blaming someone else or that there isn't sufficient government controls on the possession of some inanimate object.

I am really beginning to think that the milquetoasts are like the ruling class in Atlas Shrugged. They are so convinced of their superiority that they will continue to force their ideas upon the majority until we either push them back or society collapses. And even then most of them will not realize the error of their ways.

I work with a guy who is so enamored of Obama and the healthcare takeover that he can't see the forest through the trees. I emailed him several links to articles about people who had to come here to get lifesaving medical treatments and he is convinced that it won't happen here because this is the U.S.A.

We had wolves on our ranch in MT, w.o. a real problem. The key was, however, that they were shot if they were seen. We never really bothered to hunt them, because they never approached the cattle or the ranch houses, bunk house, etc.

AFAIK, we lost more cattle to bears than to wolves -- and even that wasn't too bad.

Doesn't mean you go jogging down a game trail, though -- esp. unarmed.

One of my colleagues in the service spent his first tour at Ft. Richardson, AK.

One fine Saturday, he decided to take advantage of being stationed in such a beautiful part of the world and do a little day hike. 1st Sergeant unlocked the arms room and said "Take this with you LT". Then 1st Sergeant took one of the mags from the duty guard and gave it to my friend. That was back in the day before US Army bases became "safe, gun-free zones" (like Ft. Hood is today), but even in those days the US Army was still pretty anal about counting rounds of ammo, so the only ammo the 1st Sergeant could get his hands on without filling out piles of requisitions was the one mag in the pistol of the duty guard and the two spare mags in his mag pouch.

This guy grew up in CA, so his first thought was the 1st Sergeant was having some fun at his expense, and figured he was being set-up for some good-natured ribbing later. Anyway, a lowly 2LT doesn't question a 1st Sergeant, so he hosltered the .45, filled his canteen and put a few candy bars in his butt-pack.

So he's walking down the trail through the pines on a fine sunny day, like 'little red riding hood' in BDUs, completely in 'condition white'. He turns a corner and comes face to face with a pack of wolves. Now, this guy is no 5' tall gymnast. He was built like a linebacker, so a malamute was not going to look like a grizzly bear to him. He had never seen wolves before, but he was quite clear that these were not 'sled dogs on vacation', they were wolves.

He wasn't quite sure exactly how many wolves there were, but he was sure it was more than 4 and a couple looked "really big". He looked at the wolves. The wolves looked at him. No-one moved. He was suddenly very aware that he had exactly 7 rounds in his magazine.

Not taking his eyes off the wolves, he slowly drew his .45 and racked a round in the chamber as he slowly backed down the trail, his heart pounding. He figured he backed down that trail a good 300m before he turned around, still checking over his shoulder every 2 or 3 steps as he hustled back to base.

A 5' tall ex-gymnast? No chance. Given her surroundings, I'd say she's a candidate for a "Darwin Award". A "Darwin Honorable mention" at the very least.

How hippies kill wild life:

Hippie couple are walking in the wilds. They spot a fawn crouched and still in the grass. They go over and pet it. They move on. Fawns have little or no scent and their coat renders them invisible to most animals if they stay still. When a threat is perceived the fawn will go down and still and mama doe will move off. She will either turn back or circle back to the fawn. After the fawn has been petted, mama doe comes out sniffs the fawn and smells human. She will have nothing to do with the fawn, it doesn't smell like her's anymore the scent of hippy overpowers the natural scent. Fawn dead of starvation. Sometimes the hippies will actually pick up the fawn and take the "orphan" to a park employee or a wild life officer. I admire the wildlife control people who don't SSS the hippies.

I was on a hunt not so long ago when, despite the "hunt in progress", the "live fire - danger", the "danger - unexploded ordnance" and the "military area - no trespassing" signs, a group of hippy joggers insisted on running through the middle of the area being worked by the hunters. I still don't know whether I was impressed or disappointed that the organisers didn't shoot them and leave the wild piggies to eat the evidence.

Did I miss something, where did we get the idea that this lady was a hippie? 'Cos she runs? Hell, I run, and long distances too. And, I am no hippie.

I would love to go for a run in Alaska. I have run in many places and loved it. But I must admit, I did feel as though I wanted a firearm with me. Some of the predators I encountered (both two and four legged) needed a bit of shooting, if you ask me.

Four my 10 cents worth, I would have liked a light .357 to run (or climb with).

Cheers - Rusty

You may find that the aerobic aspect of the exercise improves when something is chasing you.

Off hand I can't think of any "dangerous" predator that a human could outrun?
