It's one thing for a band to have leftist leaning- a good many do. However, for them to have full out Radical-Socialist-Revolution-NOW lyrics like Rage, well, it does make me feel guility listening to them.
I also listen to a lot of early '70s prog rock, but have never felt guilty about it.

I listen to CCR.
And yes, they are better than the Beatles.

Re: Guilty musical pleasures
I'm starting to enjoy covers more than I enjoy original songs. Hence I have 4 Richard Cheese albums. I own Metallica's "Garage Inc." album because it has covers of Thin Lizzy's "Whiskey in the Jar" and Blue Oyster Cult's "Imaginos". I bought a few Laibach albums because of their covers, and I own the Beatles "Let It Be" album simply to compare it to Laibach's version (I prefer Laibach). I got into Johnny Cash when I heard his version of NIN's "Hurt"; I thought Cash's version was superior to Reznor's original. Ditto with his cover of "Personal Jesus" on the same album, and his version of "Wichita Lineman" on the single. I bought one of his albums solely for the cover of Soundgarden's "Rusty Cage". Devo's cover of "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" really gives me the feeling that he can't get no satisfaction more than Mick Jagger's did (and Jagger admitted Devo's was the best cover). Amongst my MP3s I have the Soviet Red Army Chorus doing "It's a Long Way to Tipperary". And somewhere in my music collection is the CD of a goth-lounge band called the Deathtones who did covers of "Suicide is Painless" and "Black No.1" among others.
One of the cover albums I own also goes into another genre I enjoy: Tuvan throat singers. The Tuvan band Ya-Khat did an album of covers called "Re-Cover", in which they do versions of "When the Levee Breaks", "Inna-Gadda-Da-Vida", and "Love Will Tear Us Apart" (and frankly I didn't like the original Joy Division/New Order version).

Re: Guilty musical pleasures
I think about the only thing that could be vaguely considered a guilty pleasure around here as far as music is concerned would be someone who had a large collection of boyband albums that were used for listening and not ersatz trap targets.
Me, I have no guilty pleasures as far as music goes.

Remember, folks, you can't spell "douche" without "Che."

Does it count if I admit I have one Kelly Clarkson single?SoupOrMan wrote:I think about the only thing that could be vaguely considered a guilty pleasure around here as far as music is concerned would be someone who had a large collection of boyband albums that were used for listening and not ersatz trap targets.

I like smooth jazz. I hate the name of the genre, but I like the music.
