WASHINGTON (AP) – The pro-gun majority in the House moved Wednesday to compel the nation's capital to broaden the rights of its residents to buy and own firearms, including semiautomatic weapons.
Critics, led by the District of Columbia's sole delegate to Congress, decried the action. They said the vote tramples on the District's rights to govern itself and could endanger both residents and political dignitaries who so often travel across the city.
Congress considers limiting city authority

The D.C. Council approved emergency legislation Tuesday that would legalize semi-automatic handguns in the District and ease storage requirements for gun owners, while the Democrat-led Congress took steps to trump the city's home-rule authority and set its own terms for relaxed gun ownership in the nation's capital.
The race to comply with the landmark U.S. Supreme Court ruling earlier this year that struck down the District's handgun ban proceeded on parallel tracks, driven in part by election-year desires by congressional lawmakers from both parties to show they support gun rights.
POLITICIANS & DIAPERS NEED TO BE CHANGED OFTEN AND FOR THE SAME REASON
A person properly schooled in right and wrong is safe with any weapon. A person with no idea of good and evil is unsafe with a knitting needle, or the cap from a ballpoint pen.

I'm a bit torn about this, because I really want to see Heller make DC face SCOTUS again... SCOTUS expects groveling from elected servants, not defiance -- it might get us a decision that actually does some good...
And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm Reliance on the Protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our Fortunes, & our sacred Honor
Unfortunately, there's a REAL danger McClown will screw everything up and piss people off and LOSE the election - the Obambi gets to pick the next couple of justices and Heller goes right in the toilet for us.
I'd feel MUCH better if it wasn't so damn close, 5-4 is too slim a margin to play with.

The House and the Senate realize that DC gun laws have implications on their ablitiy to get re-elected. The DC twits seem to keep thinking it is a local issue.
If the Bill becomes law and the DC twits oppose it not only are they going to be sued for sure but the US legislature may get tired enough of them to take away home rule for the district.
The current administration of DC seems to live in a parochial echo chamber disconected from the legal and political realities of the rest of the country.
