I've been after a decent scope to put on my Savage 06 for awhile now. I was aiming at a cheaper Leupold or a Nikon Monarch. Today I picked up a good looking Leupold and rings for about $330. Got into the car and started reading the owners manual to try and figure out what the funky dot settings were, and something that looked like a dead battery. Turns out they sold me a shotgun scope.
When I returned, I was assured that this was indeed meant for a rifle-there were no markings on the box and the owners manual itself was labeled "Riflescope". Convinced that it would work, I left again feeling satisfied, but before putting it on my rifle I went to the Leupold website to do some reading. Turns out that it's really meant for muzzleloaders, and these guys were full of it.

I don't really feel like going back there and dealing with these folks again tomorrow, but its a very expensive mistake to make. So I'm starting to think I might be better off with a refund and take my business elsewhere. Since all the major stores around here suck, it looks like the internet will be my friend...

Re: Scope saga
No refund, but they did let me swap scopes. The comparable level rifle leupold (VXII) was a bit more money, and didn't impress me as much with clarity. I ended up going down one level for a Nikon Buckmasters scope. They threw in a box of Federal Premium 165g ballistic tipped rounds, and some 3/8 scope rings so I can put the old simmons scope on my .22 mag. I think it worked out nicely. Had to keep the old crappy rings on the '06 though-the rings I bought require new bases. I'll order those online.
