Anchorage Police charged a motorist Saturday with shooting and critically injuring a second driver in a fit of road rage on Gambell Street near downtown.

Pesamino Faamasino, 19, was charged with three counts of first-degree robbery and one count of first-degree assault.

At about 6 a.m., Faamasino shot Stanislav Teodorovich, 20, in the shoulder in a parking lot near the Tesoro gas station at 4th Avenue and Gambell, police said.

Theodorovich -- a Russian citizen enrolled at the University of Alaska Anchorage last year -- was in critical condition at a local hospital Saturday evening.

A passenger in Teodorovich's vehicle told police after the shooting that Teodorovich cut off Faamasino in traffic when he turned in the wrong direction on 4th Avenue, a one-way street, and then attempted to correct himself by making a U-turn.

Police said the passenger told them Faamasino was visibly angry, and pulled over when Teodorovich motioned him to. Both cars parked in an alley near the gas station and Faamasino came over to Teodorovich's car with a gun and asked "what they had under their seats that they might pull out on him," according to a police charging document.

The passenger said they didn't have a weapon.

Faamasino demanded their money and when Teodorovich began driving away, Faamasino fired a round into the car, the charging document says.

Teodorovich kept driving but then pulled over, bleeding from his shoulder and breathing hard, according to the statement provided by his passenger. Police said the bullet nicked his aorta and damaged both lungs.

Police searched for Faamasino and the vehicle he was driving, a gray Dodge Neon, and stopped him near Mountain View. During the traffic stop, Faamasino told police he had shot someone near Gambell. His account of how the shooting happened differed from what the passenger in the victim's car said.

Faamasino said Teodorovich had been tailgating him and that both Teodorovich and the passenger walked over to his car.

While police talked to Faamasino, a woman approached them. The Neon was hers, she said, and Faamasino stole it from her at gunpoint in Mountain View, according to the charging document. Hence, the robbery charges.

Faamasino was being held on $250,000 bail.

I think the use of the term "road rage" is more to do with laziness on the part of the reporter or Political Fashion than anything else. Sounds like a punk on a robbery spree.

Why it is that seemingly the entire population of a tropical island paradise is bound and determined to move to frikking Alaska is beyond me, but there it is. We had a houseful of them next door for several years until the owner finally evicted them, and I'm real surprised that neither I nor my neighbor got in a shooting war with them.

The landlord had to pretty much remodel the entire inside of the house before he could sell it, which included hauling something like 17 pickup truck loads worth of shit to the dump. Thankfully, we now have reasonable neighbors on all sides, one of whom is an FFL.
