Editor's Notebook: Potpourri
By Rich Grassi
A news story reports that near Pittsburgh PA, a 48 year old man who didn't hit it off with the ladies - if what is reported is true - walked into a ladies' fitness class at a gym, turned off the lights and began shooting indiscriminately. It's said he had no connection to any of the women in the class - in fact, no connection with women at all. A website believed to be his, said that he'd never been married and hadn't had sex in 19 years.
While that starts out somewhat like one of those jokes that clog our email boxes from time to time (who sends all those things?), this case is sadly no joking matter. The girls didn't like him so he loaded up and went after them, or so it's said in the media.
What a hero! That and, in a room full of people, and with all those guns (the media breathlessly reports, "He had four guns!"), he allegedly killed 3 and wounded nine. The ultimate sad sack then killed himself. I'm surprised he could pull that off. Fortunately, along with self-esteem, he lacked competence with small arms.
Why did he do this? Does he wants to go down in history? Actually, it's the terrorist game plan all over again: I can't compete on my own, the problem is bigger than me, all I can do is terrorize people.
Another thing, we have a mass shooting during a leftist-statist administration. We don't see so many of these things when a normal democratic republic is in place. No one argues there is a conspiracy afoot. I'm just sayin' . . .
Meanwhile, it's also been reported that concealed carry permits are up. One location identified as a hotbed of permit application activity is Clay County MO, according to USA Today. The reasons? They cite fear of escalating crime due to the economy and a fear of the gun control agenda of the federal government.
As a counterpoint, a group of city mayors - Mayors Against Illegal Guns - are being reported on in the Washington Post.. Run by the worlds's 17th richest person (so says Forbes Magazine) -- Michael Bloomberg, the group is largely funded by him too. He believes that the US is the biggest exporter of arms to Mexico (actually, the US Government holds that title - not private gun owners), that interstate carry of concealed weapons is dangerous, and that "common sense regulation" includes banning the AR15 you bought during the first few months of the Obama administration.
See, money won't buy you everything! Case in point: Mayor Bloomberg apparently should spend some of that money and buy some common sense.
