Deadliest Warrior

Post by Jericho941 »

I caught an episode or two of this, and it seemed cool, in a silly sort of way. I mean, it's a show that looks at historical weapons and tries to determine who would win in scenarios like "Spartan vs. Ninja," "Knight vs. Pirate," and "IRA vs. Taliban."

And then yesterday I saw "Spetsnaz vs. Green Berets."

Now, there's no denying that this show was going to be hotly contested no matter who won, but in the testing I realized that scoring was based on who could impress the geeks the most, so one could submit Psycho vs. Idiot and it'd come down to whoever represented either side making himself look more impressive.

Case in point: For close combat, the Spetsnaz brought in a ballistic knife, and the Green Berets brought in an e-tool. The geeks decided that the ballistic knife was superior, because it was "an actual weapon" with the added bonus of being able to shoot people with it.

Then there was the pistol shooting contest, where they decided that the Makarov was superior to the M9, because the Spetsnaz guy hit all the targets, while the Green Beret was faster, but in his rush to beet the Spetsnaz's time, his shots were off and he missed a target outright.

Really, I thought the pistol contest was more of a contest of technique, as the Spetsnaz guy, despite being the one who was into action movie moves (like slides and combat roles), managed to prove that "slow is smooth, smooth is fast" simply by taking his time and shooting all the targets.

Long story short, they ran their combat simulations and the Spetsnaz won by a scant seven kills.

My brother thought the weapon selection was odd, as he'd never seen Green Berets playing with e-tools or M9s, so being Air Force, I'll defer to his knowledge. For whatever reason, it was what the Green Berets brought to the show. Personally, my plan A in any scenario involving hostile special forces is to run my ass off.

So it's a fun show, and the banter between the Spetsnaz and Green Berets was often hilarious, but that's all it is, just silly entertainment.

I still think they should just pick random people, have them choose whatever weapons they want, and run a simulation on that. I think it'd be really entertaining to watch, and I'm pretty sure that somebody dual-wielding 1911s could easily impress the judges over somebody behaving much more practically with a Glock.

Basically, it's fun to see the simulated mayhem, but it's not exactly serious business. A grain of salt on your popcorn, and you're good to go.

Have they done pirate vs. ninja yet?
Remember, folks, you can't spell "douche" without "Che."

I still wish they hadn't cancelled Combat Missions. Now that was a good reality show with soldiers in it.

I'm surprised they haven't. Honestly, "Pirate vs. Knight" is one of the most baffling, un-asked questions outside of varsity high school teams.

ABSOLUTELY! The only way to go is up (once you've hit bottom).
POLITICIANS & DIAPERS NEED TO BE CHANGED OFTEN AND FOR THE SAME REASON

A person properly schooled in right and wrong is safe with any weapon. A person with no idea of good and evil is unsafe with a knitting needle, or the cap from a ballpoint pen.

My understanding of this, and it may just be the rumormill, is that the military won't agree to the release of the first season on dvd because the cops won. I could also see this as the reason to not want to go forward with any new seasons.

Buncha sore losers. They're just scared that short SWAT guy was going to heal up his ankle, come back, and kick all their asses again.

Hehe, he couldn't carry the log but when most of his team (military guys) were getting hit, he was taking almost all of the other side out all by himself. One of the early episodes. I can't recall his name, think it started with P?

Haha, I remember when it came out my best friend and I were watching that one and cheering that guy's name.

Damn, I have to go see if I can download that season off the net somewhere.
