Surefire G2 Nitrolon

I found a Surefire G2 Nitrolon for $36.

1) Should I get one?
2) Is this a good price?
3) The optional P61 lamp is $25. Is it worth nearly the price?

Dunno much about the Surefire. But I have a few of these: http://www.flashlightreviews.com/review ... firelx.htm which compare favorably with the G2 for less moolah.

Combat Controller has posted positive things about them, too. One of mine is on an 870 shottie and has withstood a few hundred rounds of 00 Buck so far.

The Palm Blaze is a good deal in an LED compact. Although, they have been harder to find of late. I have a few and like them. They do tend to get a bit hot after being on for 30 mins or more.

If you don't "need" the standard light get the LED version.
The LED's don't break when hot unlike the bulb version, and put out a very decent amount of light. The batteries last a whole lot longer also.

I carry a 6P and a 6P with the 3watt LED conversion head daily. The LED gets the most use, the batteries lasting much longer but the distance loss keeps the standard 6P on my belt also.

The P61 bulb is nice and quite brighter than the P60 bulb but with the loss of battery life.

My G2 Nitrolon has the 120 lumen set up in it. I like it a lot. Makes it a totally different light in terms of output. My friends refer to it as "the sun in my pocket" because it's so bright.

after a quick glance around ebay, you can probably do a bit better than $36 on a G2. For just a few dollars more, you can get the aluminum bodied 6P on ebay. I personally like the look and feel of metal better than plastic, but to each his own.

At this point in time, I would go for the LED version of the light. It gives vastly better battery life, and i believe slightly higher output than the standard P60 bulb. If you want some serious light, I have heard great things about Malkoff Device's bulb upgrades.

I own a 9P, which is basically the 6P/G2's big brother. It puts out 105 lumens with the standard bulb, and 200 with the p91. I spent the extra money on the P91 when I got the light, but honestly i almost never use it. I think you will find that the standard bulb is more than enough for most uses, especially if you are used to using a mini-mag or something like that. If the LED upgrade bulb had been around when I bought my light, I would have gone for that instead of the P91. Right now I'm trying to justify the cost of a Malkoff upgrade, but the 105 lumen bulb is pretty much enough for my uses.

I recently returned from a 3 week passage to Bermuda and back from Newport, R.I on a 42' sailboat in all kinds of weather. My Surefire nitrolon was subject to terriffic abuse,steped on , rolled around,smashed aginst steel and wood objects and got soaked numerous times. It took a licking and kept on workin..I recommend them.

I don't recommend sailing to Bermuda, take a jet, 2 1/2 hours you are there, no worries.
Nothing goes to weather like a Boeing 737.

What kind of sailboat? How long did it take you to get there, and did you get to spend much time there or did you have to turn right around and head back home?

Did you also find out if your Nitrolon floats?
