Sgt. Dumbass Manages To Get The Whole Mall Shut Down

Yea, I bet that Sgt. Dumbass is having a really bad week right about now...

This is the kind of thing that a senior NCO absolutely LOVES to get put in charge of handling. First, he has to measure the proper placement for his nice new PFC insignia on his uniform... Then he gets to clean every single spot that his NCO, CO and his base commander could think of that had not been properly cleaned in the last couple of decades with a toothbrush... Next he gets to pack up his gear for a vacation at Thule AFB where he will be on permanent loan to the USAF as their brand new bird droppings scrubber.

Coupl'a thoughts
Fort Bragg soldier with an AR-15 assault-type rifle wearing a military ballistic panel carrier and carrying multiple rifle ammunition magazines caused a busy Cross Creek Mall to lock down Thursday night.
WTF was he thinking? He was so desperate for a "hero" photograph that he went to the mall in full battle-rattle? From what I've seen lately, every swinging dick deploying has a cell phone, or laptop, or both, and violates OPSEC daily, taking photos and tweeting them around the world.

You would think that in a mall close to Bragg, before the police got there he would have run into a senior NCO or officer who would have shut his silly ass down.

You would think that at a mall that close to Bragg, the civilians would be used to seeing soldiers in uniform, even if he was carrying a rifle. There are plenty of ways to carry a rifle that is non-threatening.

I recall the last years of the past century, I was in a National Guard unit in Shreveport, LA. We regularly traveled (as in monthly) to Fort Polk to train. One truck stop halfway, and we used to pull into that truck stop for a pee break. Nothing at all to see 30-40 soldiers in full rattle standing in line near the men's room or at the register buying pogey-bait. Of course, we conducted ourselves properly, were courteous and polite, and paid in cash.

PawPaw, from the articles I saw (with pictures) he was in civvies while carrying that stuff. He didn't want to get stopped by MPs for inappropriate wear of bdus (or whatever they're called now). No matter what, this guy almost sounds like a duffleblog doufus.

Is it really that hard to put the battle rattle in a dufflebag and the rifle into some sort of case, then don all the crap once you're at the photo studio?

Ok, I get it. All of your observations are valid. However, did he actually commit a crime? The arrest and charge sound like bullshit legalese summarized as "You scared a bunch of soccer moms and their emasculated beta husbands." Again, I'm not arguing that he isn't a dumbass. He is. I'm just wondering if there is an actual crime there. Also, are his charges a felony or misdemeanor? That sounds like an almost made up, bullshit misdemeanor.
There must be an end to this intimidation by those who come to this great country, but reject its culture.

The law in question

In practice, it seems to be applied as "you should have known it would scare people. It did scare people. Now you're in trouble."

He made his superiors look like jackasses. You do that anywhere, they will punish you for it one way or the other.

I'm not familiar with that state's statute. It wouldn't be a crime in Louisiana, unless the mall posted a "no guns" policy, and then it would only be trespassing. Maybe Disturbing the Peace, both misdemeanors.

However, under that state's laws? Who knows?

As far as his commanders, you violate Article 134 at your peril.

Yeah, that. Wouldn't have shocked me in the least if it was some just-out-of IET brand new E-2.....but you'd think by time soldiers get to E-5 they'd friggin know better.
