AZ members: What is Janet’s background with 2A issues?
AZ members: What is Janet’s background with 2A issues?
Now that The One has tapped Janet to run DHS, what is her attitude on 2A issues (and any other issues that need to be brought to the nation’s attention).

Arizona is a BIG gun state, bigger than Texas. While she has vetoed several pro gun bills, she never attempted to attack the status quo either. This may have less to do with her personal beliefs about gun laws but rather the fact that she is not stupid and did not want to paint herself as anti gun for the election. We did have some loosening of the CCW requirements, and some positive changes in the self defense laws so it hasn't been all bad.
Hopefully the new Republican governor will fix all this, especially with the increased republican majority this next legislative session.

So basically she is as good as one could get from an Obama appointee. A bigger problem is the new Attorney General.
Re: AZ members: What is Janet’s background with 2A issues?
That is assuming, of course, that we end up with a republican governor. It seems in that last number of years that the land of Goldwater has been very obviously drifting leftward. Actually I'm kinda interested in who the republican candidate for governor will be.Hopefully the new Republican governor will fix all this, especially with the increased republican majority this next legislative session.

Good to know she is on the right side (mostly) on 2A issues. Hopefully she can keep principles above party on this issue…
As the new administration takes shape, it is some relief that she is not a rabid anti.

She personally might not be a foaming at the mouth anti, but as Chris pointed out she is a party girl. If the official party line is anti she will loyally tow the line. And like Chris, I have been more than a little disappointed with our legislature for not trumping her veto when they have the votes.George K wrote:Good to know she is on the right side (mostly) on 2A issues. As others have pointed out, she's more of an opportunist than anything else.
She vetoes every single pro-gun bill that hit her desk except one. That particular bill had overwhelming support, and the legislature could have easily overrode a veto. Napalatano does NOT like being embarrassed by the legislature.
She's not a "gun grabber" by any means, but she's definitely not pro 2nd amendment either.
Here in AZ we are very happy to see her go. In AZ, we don't have a Lt. Gov. The Sec State becomes Governor, and our current Sec State is a Republican.

Yeah, and so is McClown. The real question is how does he feel about RKBA?NVGdude wrote:Here in AZ we are very happy to see her go. In AZ, we don't have a Lt. Gov. The Sec State becomes Governor, and our current Sec State is a Republican.
Perhaps now something good might happen to Mr. Fisher (sp?).
POLITICIANS & DIAPERS NEED TO BE CHANGED OFTEN AND FOR THE SAME REASON
A person properly schooled in right and wrong is safe with any weapon. A person with no idea of good and evil is unsafe with a knitting needle, or the cap from a ballpoint pen.
I remain pessimistic given the way BATF and the anti gun crowd have become tape worms in the guts of the Republic. - toad

Re: AZ members: What is Janet’s background with 2A issues?
Agreed. I will be more than happy to see the dear governor depart. However, the idea of her being in charge of Homeland Security doesn't fill me with any sense of safety. During her tenure in Arizona she has allowed the state to become the main corridor for illegals invading our country. And because ICE comes under the supervision of DHS I am more than a little underwhelmed at the idea of her heading up the agency that ostensibly has the obligation of securing our borders and homeland in general.
Jan Brewer is a pretty solid republican and is a substantial step up from "Nappy". However, she will only be looked at as an interm governor so I don't know what she will be able to accomplish after she assumes the office. Hopefully the Arizona news media won't "Bush" her and she will stand a fair chance at getting elected to the office in her own right.
And John McClown is up for reelection in 2010 and it isn't too soon to try and find somebody to crush him in the primaries that the dems won't be able to stand a chance against. Because, frankly, he's gotta go. He is already about 10 years past retirement as it is. I wonder if JD Hayworth would be interested in getting back in the ring.....

Like it or not McCain has a lifetime seat here in AZ. Even if you got him out in the primaries he would just pull a Lieberman and run as an independent and still win.
