Looking to MAYBE Get a Roku Box

My wife came across info regarding Roku, and after looking it over, it sounds pretty good (especially the latest version). I did a little searching here (on TGC) and other than the main conversations regarding the device, there hasn't been anything posted of significance since 2011.

For those of you who own one (or more) of the devices, what do you have to say about them now (after a couple years of use)?

Would you recommend the device or would you recommend something else instead?? Is it as good a value for the money as it appears? Currently, we have both, Redbox AND Netflix accounts - and we're looking to drop one of them, after all, it'll be cheaper than renting movies from their little armored boxes.

What kind of channel/programming restrictions (other than local sports games due to blackouts) have you encountered (if any) - as long as it comes in on the cable line, should we be able to watch the programs??

I owned one for a while. The only reason I don't have one anymore, is that I have all the capabilities they offer, in other things.

They are the least expensive, smallest, and simplest way to get everything they give.

The chromecast is a lot cheaper ($35), and has or will eventually have all the capability of a roku when teamed with a computer or android tablet etc... but you need a computer or android tablet.

I have a Samsung "smart" bluray player and it has most of the functionality of a Roku. If you don't already have a bluray player, it's a good option.

Some tv's now even have a lot of that functionality built in... I know mine does and it's neither terribly new nor high end. But I think for content streaming a Roku is a great solution.

One thing to remember- all the functionality we're talking about here is content streaming and all depends on you having a fast 'net connection.
