As mentioned in the Labor Day sales thread, I picked up an Aimpoint Pro from AIM Surplus, $380 with free shipping. I mounted it on the 9mm JR carbine and took it to the range tonight. Sighted in just fine, had to come up a lot in elevation, though. Works just fine. Supposedly has a three year run life on the battery, leaving it turned on all the time. I'll probably turn it off when not in use, though. It is very nice, and very high quality. The rail mount has a three click setting, to prevent overtightening on the Pic rail.
It's a nice match up with the JR, once sighted in I could put every shot through the same hole in the target. Cowitnesses well with the BUIS too. It comes with a riser to match up with typical ARish set ups, and can be removed for use on shotguns and such.
I suppose it's begging the question--how does it stand up to the Lucid, Vortex SrikeFire and other such red dots (of which I own several)? Just going by initial impressions, very well--the layout of the sight and its controls is just so, simple and effective. No funky rubber button covers, no manipulations to get the sight where I want it. The quality of the optics and housing are very, very good. Is the price difference worthwhile? At about twice the price, it might be debatable. The difference in quality is evident.

Re: Aimpoint PRO Red Dot Sight
From what I understand the PRO is basically an update on an older (Comp M2) but still at one point military issued red dot. The Vortex etc. have never been issued so many turn their nose up at them.

Re: Aimpoint PRO Red Dot Sight
I have a Lucid and two Strikefires. They are good optics. The HD7 rides atop a converted Saiga in 7.62x39. The Strikefires are on ARs.
That said, I've been eyeing up the PRO for my taking-forever top-quality build AR. From everything I've read, the PRO is an outstanding RDS. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread.
