Small gun lockers/safes exploitability

That is a hard story to read, like maybe the author has difficulty maintaining a train of thought. I never did see what models were defective, only that a 3 yo can open them with a small piece of brass. Can a 3yo really do that with out coaching?

As for these cheap "safes". I have a couple keyed Stack Ons. I don't trust it as secure storage, more like a closet to stash some guns. I keep them in a locked room for security.

IIRC one of the gun mags did a test years ago, the author put candy/treats/toys in gun cases and told the kids they could have whatever they could get to, using only things a kid would be likely to have available around the house like screwdrivers, scissors, etc. They managed to get most of them open without too much trouble, and in most cases without permanently damaging the case.

I use one to stash my CCW piece when at home.

Bolted to the wall and shelf in it's storage location.

Was too high and inaccessible to a munchkin type without producing a lot of noise making activity. Darlin' Daughter has since been gun proofed and trained.

Not in an obvious location

Nothing is going to stop a determined intruder, idea is to slow down the casual punk while keeping it handy for me to get to.

I use a cheap Stack On box for storing important papers and cash.... That box is stored inside one of my full-sized gun safes. I figure a little extra fire protection can't hurt.

You know, you read about enough home invasions in the Rifleman magazine and elsewhere, and you start to see a pattern. The guys who survive, usually wind up getting their ass kicked, shot, stabbed, etc, for however long it takes them to get to the gun they should have been carrying in the first place.

No, but there's a big difference between on your person and available in the house.

And even though I frequently wear mine around the house, I also have one in a kitchen cabinet, and another stuffed in the cushions nearby.

Living where it's frequently hot and not much of a chance for concealment until it gets cooler, makes it a LOT different than when living where it rarely even reaches 90 degrees. Personally, when wearing shorts, I use my (what my wife calls it) "Bat Belt", which although lighter than my old duty belt, still performs the same functions as my old duty belt - carrying my gun holster, large knife, flashlight holder, and loaded magazines. A long-sleeved shirt with tails covers everything, although I much prefer OC'ing.

True, and this might be a compromise that gives me a "sucks to be me" day sometime.

But I do have stuff close enough to discreetly grab if I'm answering an unexpected doorbell etc.
And easy to grab quickly if someone starts kicking in the reinforced door frame/deadbolt combo.

And one reason I use the CCW box is to be able to grab it quickly if I start getting a bad vibe (motion lights coming on unexpectedly, strange noises outside, etc.) rather than going to the gun locker.

Of course if the operational/threat environment here starts to change radically, it's easy enough to keep the CCW on while in the house.
