Rayovac lantern sale

Post by Rich Jordan »

Amazon has the Rayovax Sportsman extreme 300 lumen lantern (the one that takes three D-cell batteries) for $17.99, free shipping with Prime.

This is an excellent lantern, versatile and long lasting. The only issue we've had with ours is that they tend to run a bit on the blue side of bright white (we prefer the warmer LEDs) but they have been excellent during power outages.

I can also vouch for this light. In fact, I just used it again while camping this weekend. It's very small and puts out a very good amount of light. Low level is more than enough to read by in your tent and High illuminates a campsite fairly well.

So, you slobs KNEW about a great deal and didn't let us know (until now)??????? ;) ;) ;) ;)

I noticed the initial post mentioned the COLOR of the light, but not the actual light source itself (and it could be argued the mention of the LEDs could have been enough), but I've learned LONG ago to not take anything for granted nor assume anything simply because it was mentioned (it's simply one of the ways con-men work, and I AM NOT inferring anyone here is a con-man. Assumptions and innuendo go a LONG ways when people aren't paying attention, which is why they get so many victims).

If you have one of these lights, please tell us how many LED bulbs they have (even though they apparently are no longer available - AT THIS TIME). Even if the lights themselves might not be too bright, having more of them makes a difference in spreading the light. I've seen three-bulb LED lights which are incredibly bright (usually focused light) not put out the area light of a five-bulb lower intensity light.

So, depending on the design, the number of lights in the lantern might be real important, or might not be - DEPENDING ON THE DESIGN of the lantern.

This way, if the same lantern (I checked the link and there was no picture at this time) comes up for sale, we might have a good idea if it's the same lantern or not - and someone is trying to rip off those who couldn't get one of the original lamps of a popular item, and trying to rip off anyone else looking for the same thing.

DO NOT underestimate the scumbag/criminal mind.

Posted it as soon as I saw it. I was at work and didn't have time to do much more than I did. Being a gold-box special it was a one-day only sale. Certainly didn't intend to cause any angst, and did not know they'd sell out that quickly and replace the item shown when I posted the link.

See this link for the same item (but higher price).

See here for a Candlepower Forum topic on the lantern.

See here for a topic on modifying the lantern that should answer questions regarding LED modules.

See here for some Amazon customer pics of the lantern guts including displaying the three LED elements.

Retail around here seems to be about $25 and IMO worth that price. I've found them locally on sale (at Menards) for $18.99 a couple of times, and I think Amazon has had them up for sale at least once before.
