Boy shot by crossbow

Post by 308Mike »

So, these kids commit felonies by throw ROCKS at passing cars (although they don't say what size rocks and where they were hitting the car - makes a HUGE difference in how deadly they are - but it's still a felony), and someone hit by the rocks stops and shoots one of the kids with (probably) a hand-held crossbow. NOT a smart move, but I bet those two kids won't be throwing rocks at cars driving down the road anymore (and I guarandamntee this car was NOT the ONLY car they threw rocks at and hit while driving down the road).

The kids were lucky it wasn't a regular firearm and/or a shoulder-sized crossbow (not a felony to possess by convicted felons) with a broadhead and/or a broadbased flathead stun arrow/bolt with a MUCH larger impact face.

SAN DIEGO — A boy was shot in the abdomen by a crossbow arrow Monday after he and another boy were throwing rocks at a passing car in Linda Vista, San Diego police said.

A passenger in a black Toyota RAV4 pulled out a crossbow and fired one shot before driving away around 2:15 p.m. on Linda Vista Road near Mesa College Drive, said police Officer Dino Delimitros.

The two people in the car were described as Latino males and most likely juveniles. Ages were not released for the boys who had been throwing rocks.

The boy who was shot was taken to Rady Children’s Hospital and suffered injuries that were not considered life threatening, Delimitros said.

Stupid meets stupid.

As an aside: The boy was shot "with" a crossbow, not "by" a crossbow.
He was shot "by" a thug using a crossbow.

Another "journalist" demonizing the inanimate object.

I think you're too late, the object has done been demonized, along with blow guns, shurikens, knives that are too big, open too easily, are too scary looking, rice flails, and pointy things that look like canes. This is California, after all.
The use of the word "but" usually indicates that everything preceding it in a sentence is a lie.
E.g.:
"I believe in Freedom of Speech, but". . .
"I support the Second Amendment, but". . .

While throwing small rocks or beer bottles at cars passing on a regular street or 2 lane road will likely do no more than break a window, dropping large rocks from freeway overpasses can kill a driver or front seat passenger, and I view it as assault and/or reckless endangerment.

More like Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Attempted Murder, Reckless Endangerment, etc., etc., - here's a few incidents:

A minor update to the story, but check out the comment by the archery shop owner:
Bob Fromme of Performance Archery in San Diego said crossbows can do considerable damage.

"It's not a self-defense weapon," he said. "It's a recreational-type weapon. Sometimes people do things they're not supposed to. They get hit with baseball bats and maybe stabbed with steak knives. But that's not what this was designed for."

Police don't know what type of crossbow was used, but Fromme told 10News they can fire an arrow at more than 350 feet per second and hit a 4- to 6-inch circle from 60 yards away.

As for people getting shot with crossbows, Hassen said, "I've been doing this for well over 20 years, and this is the only the second time I've ever seen anybody shot with a crossbow. It's very unusual."

Fromme agreed, and added, "Archery's not meant to be shooting people."

The name of the boy who was shot is not being released.
OH REALLY?????? So what did they use before firearms??? What a moronic comment - but he could also be trying to reinforce the perception that archery is not primarily a weapon platform, but rather a sport to keep legislator's attention away from from archery and crossbows - 'cause you know how screwed-up the legislators are in Commiefornia. They get a whif of something that they might not have regulated, and the next thing you know they're working on new laws to deprive the people of another means of sport or pleasure, which might also be used for home defense if you can't own firearms. So, in a way, I don't really blame him for that comment, even though it reeks of ignorance.

After all, archery is just another tool which can be VERY useful.
