Book report, of sorts.

I just got done with River Horse, a sort of travelogue. The author's pen name is William Least Heat-Moon and he appears to be (a) a Democrat, and (b) a big city liberal, which could be a deadly combination, but in this case is merely amusing.

The premise is a journey from the Atlantic at New York to the Pacific at the mouth of the Columbia River, following rivers with as few portages as possible, using a C-Dory and a canoe, both powered by outboard motors.

Heat-Moon writes well, and with some humor. There are a lot of little observations and local tales here, plus references to Lewis and Clark's journals.

This isn't a good airplane book, but is one you can lay down, then pick back up a week later without having to go back and refresh the plot in your mind, because there really is no plot, just the journey.

I enjoyed it, others may find it tedious. But that's life.
