Stand pat or move out?
Re: Stand pat or move out?
Vancouver area. And they do need Kalifornia people, the ones with cash are leaving and spending it in a state that treats you like a free man. Before 2009 is gone, I will have my Right to Carry. It is 65 bucks and last 5 years. My DMV will go down 80% for both of my vehicles. And I will not pay one dime in state income tax. All Good.

As an aside, lots of folks from the States have come up here looking for work etc, and are living in the homeless shelters in Anchorage , Alaska is not as good of a bug out place as folks thought, select your location carefully.

Vancouver -- no income tax and shopping across the river with no sales tax in OR.

Glad to hear. Was on another forum and the question was what three guns would you take if and when. My reaction is the same as yours. Why go when you can defend what is already familiar? Like many of you, we are on an acreage next to wilderness land with many of the needed items for long term survival already in place. Our city folk family knows where to come in the event it actually happens. I find it comforting to know there are many out there who share what I consider to be just plain old common sense. I'd stay. Better the devil you know. There are several other places we could occupy with better arcs of fire if neccessary.
A friend of mine who lives maybe a klick away has a good setup with a huge amount of SHTF supplies but no viable weapons. We would probably fall in with him.

Yeah, enjoy the weather differences too. I'm currently vacationing in Northern Oregon, it got to 6 degrees last night. We are expecting an ice storm Fri. night. Also, learn a new word: Mizzle (not exactly mist not quite drizzle). Otherwise I fully understand.postmanone wrote:Vancouver area. I'm in Portland (work in Vancouver, in fact), and a few other members here who don't post much are within an hour and a half as well. Let me know when you get here, we can make a range trip somewhere.postmanone wrote:Vancouver area.

Like the man said, "I've run about as far as I care to!" I'll take my chances here, I've got assets, resources, and room to move.

Re: Stand pat or move out?
There still a big silhouette shoot(s) east the mountains (Yakima area if I recollect)?
There used to have a group make the drive east of the mountains from the rifle club in Centralia where I shot NRA Jr's smallbore as a teen. Up the road a bit there's the Evergreen trap club up the I-5 south of Tumwater that has some good shoots. Connie's Components on military road outside Centralia is a great source for shotshell reloading. Wish I was closer -- consistently some of the best retail prices on shot out there.
If you make it that far north be sure to stop in at the Country Cousin at the Harrison Ave exit for a cinnamon roll (just have your cardiologist's number handy).
Some great opportunities in eastern WA and OR for long range shooting. Not too bad in the western side either but much of the timber and powerline roads we used to drive are locked down to all but foot traffic now (thanks a lot ELF).

Staying put. More comfortable defending the familiar.
