Nope, just Mortimer. Mortimer doesn't like bears very much, either.

Oh that's easy. The 4 round mag was the same as the regular 22" 1895. To do what you would suggest would mean seperate part numbers, seperate part runs, etc. 99.99% of those buying them don't care, and for the rest, there's the custom route..

Not much room for forgiveness there..

Ok to fix this you can order a 45-70 Cowboy tube from Brownells. Then cut it to length, cut the new dove tail with a file and a 3/8 dovetail blank to fill in the old dovetail. The spring is the same.
No I have not done this yet , maybe you will go first. :D

I had that idea too, for a while. Then I discovered that the .45-70 and .450 Marlin use different size magazine tubes (.450M is slightly smaller). That doesn't mean it wouldn't still work, but... It's also the reason why the light rail on my Marlin doesn't quite fit right.

Don't feel bad, I would never have discovered it either, except I was putting the light mount on AlaskaTRX's .45-70 and noticed that it fit more precisely than the one on my .450 does. The mounts are made by WWG to fit the .45-70 Marlin; part of their attitude problem seems to include dissing the .450 cartridge whenever it is mentioned, so I doubt if they would make one slightly smaller to fit the .450 tube. They even totally refuse to make an extended magazine like we are talking about.

If you roll your own .45-70, you can stoke it up to almost .458 WM power. It's the same receiver as a .450 Marlin, so it will take the pressure.

Yes we know ,and that is why some of us like the 45-70. I use 540 grain hard cast solids loaded up to snuff for big growlers , very impressive on both ends.
