Just an FYI from the "Ancient Barber" -- the plastic cutting guards are highly variable, and in his opinion, junk. He had what he called "proper" stainless guards, made in the US -- I normally got a "2" on the plastic, which was a "3.5" w. his steel ones.

I've had Korean lady barbers cut my hair for years. The one I've used the last few years always throws in a lil' neck and shoulder massage. Nice.

Same here, minus the massage. Maybe I'm not tipping enough.

I wasn't complaining about the gentleman retiring -- As old as he was, however, I'm pretty sure it would be due to health reasons. I was grumbling about the lack of a suitable replacement. (The only places in the area are some salons, and some kind of "man spa" w. hot tubs, etc located in the "gay" part of town.) Tomorrow, I'll be trying out a young guy who portrays himself as having a "traditional" barber shop.

If you have any military folks in your area, find out where they go to get their's cut, since they usually have to get it cut about twice a month (some guys in certain units get theirs cut 4x a month).

LOL What's embarassing is that her hubby is often present at the shop, and it feels weird getting a massage while he's there. He's always very friendly, though, nodding his head and saying, "Thank you! Thank you!" when I leave.

Well, scratch one potential barber -- there's only one man there, who apparently requires advance booking, however, judged by the shoddy job, and attempt to give me bangs, and use gel, by the woman there, he can't be very good either...

So, I'll need:

Clippers
scissors
Comb?
hand mirror? (Trying to figure out how to do the back of my neck...)

No military bases, TMK, in the Houston area. I know where there's a good shop well out of town.

Geez, you guys are making me feel lucky. Half of mine fell out, another quarter is on its way and the last 25% gets shaved with a Fusion a few times a week. Although, the massage does sound good
