You have to remember, that the power satellites were, to many people, a Trojan horse to get funding for a robust space and lunar operations capability without the neo-Luddite/Proxmire crowd realizing just what they were actually funding.

ETA: A tactic I heartily supported by the way. Anything to start getting us off this rock and spread out as much as possible. And if we got functional and economically viable power on Earth in addition to the NEO/Lagrange/Lunar infrastructure, that's just gravy.
...even before I read MHI, my response to seeing a poster for the stars of the latest Twilight movies was "I see 2 targets and a collaborator".

Corn ethanol is all about corn-growers getting fat off government subsidies. Nothing more, nothing less.
Years from now our children and grandchildren living in a 3rd world America will ask "What were you doing on March 21st 2010 and why didn't you stop it?"

I can't speak to A), but as for B)... terrorist targets? Terrorists have difficulty targeting satellites once you've baked the little twerps in "random training accidents" or "software glitches."

Or is doing unto others who actively wish you harm before they do unto you still a bad thing?
Remember, folks, you can't spell "douche" without "Che."
