You sound like "Fast Eddie", aka E.W.E., our former governor. He was a big believer in the vo-tec system, and stated that "50% of Louisiana college students have no business in college."

My divorce specified that in order for my ex to keep the house, she had to pay off my student loans (now almost 15 years ago). I am SO DAMNED GLAD that crap is paid off, you have NO IDEA (I was looking at close to $20,000+ in student loans). Now, my wife and I don't even have credit cards, and she'd had credit card debt all her life and now that she's been free from it, she has NO desire to EVER accrue that kind of debt again!!

Between student loans and credit cards, most kids are starting so far behind the debt curve that it'll take DECADES to finally get free from all their debt - UNLESS they have credit discipline and a good job. Credit card companies should NOT be allowed to charge LOAN SHARK rates to their customers if & when they miss a payment, and go from 8.99% interest to 29.99% interest!!!

I am a relatively recent college grad myself. I graduated almost five years ago now with over 19 grand in debt. By keeping myself relatively well employed and by living super frugally I have pared that down to almost 7 grand in the five years since graduation. I guess my point is that student loan debt doesn't have to destroy your world if you manage your finances right. That being said I also recognize that I am practically unique amongst my age cohort, many of my friends from college, cousins and siblings are in far deeper debt than I ever was. Some because they coudn't find jobs, others because they accrued far more debt and some who made an early decision to ignore the "low interest loan" in favor of other purchases and are now regretting it.
My circumstances aside, it is easy to see how the current student loan system, aided and abetted by the government, is ripping the financial guts out of an entire generation,; and most of those affected dont notice until it is too late and usually blame the wrong culprits when they do. I decided to forgo grad school because of the student loan crisis and I am betting the millions are going to end up wishing that they had made a similar decision.

speaking of my theater arts major daughter #2...
:jacked:
She got a call yesterday asking her to hurry up and submit a video audition of "NYC" for Annie. Director was having last minute casting problems and needed to publish cast list today. Here's her one take of that song before hurriedly submitting it. Also was her first effort on her own manipulating the new HD camera (over exposed) and external mic I got last fall.

backstory:
She had passed on an Annie audition last week (published rehearsal sched conflicting with this terms classes). She has worked with that group a lot, has the part of Grace down cold and would have been competitive for the role. She'll be back to audition at that theater for Guys and Dolls in May (her voice coach will be the musical director). Anyhow, she wrote that Annie production off and was gearing up for a Man of La Mancha audition tomorrow when she got a call yesterday. The Annie director (who will also be directing Guys and Dolls next) needed one female to cover a bunch of bit parts. They are small parts but she needed someone with some range. Nice complement for her to think of D#2. These small theaters are very "clubbish" and she's been working hard to get "in" with this director (who is also the founder). Hopefully helping out in a pinch like this bodes well for casting in their next productin (Guys and Dolls).

WOW, B.E.!!! At 0:34, she NAILS that note! 0:52 and 1:00, she shows what we're missing today! All that auto-tuned computerized crap? I'd go for anything sung by her in a heartbeat. Bravo! Bravo!

Thanx Workin, Yeah she wasn't sure she was up to belting this one.
Last time she did Annie (as Grace: Dedicated Dad was here and saw that show) she hadn't developed enough to do that song well. Throw a cold into the mix this past week and that's limited her a bit vocally.

She's been working with a vocal coach again since last summer after a couple years break and it's paying off. Yesterday she succeeded (barely due to her cold) in pulling off a performance of "If I loved you" (duet from Carousel). That head voice stuff was beyond her last year but she's getting it now. Which comes back to the original post... She's not taking on any debt for this major and she's making real progress developing her instrument. There's a lot of good life/job skills tested and developed in the musical theater environment. So I'm cool with her concentraing on this for now.

I inherited $30k in loans. That's how you know it's true love.
I ate ramin noodles for a year and paid mine off early, but I inherited just under $60k almost exactly a year ago. I'll let her know that's a sign of true love. :)

But what if SHE doesn't believe that it is a sign of true love?
The use of the word "but" usually indicates that everything preceding it in a sentence is a lie.
E.g.:
"I believe in Freedom of Speech, but". . .
"I support the Second Amendment, but". . .

You know, they have fund-raiser car washes all the time, what about a fund-raising singing marathon, and/or local contest?? I'd (WE'D - corrected by the BOSS) come by and donate!! If necessary, we could put it to the local radio stations and I BET we could get a good response, AND a good amount of exposure (don't forget to send the video in to the local stations and some agents in Hollyweird!!), which could help her IMMENSELY when paying off her debts (and that's GREAT teaching, to pay off her previous debts BEFORE acquiring more - if possible!!).
