They're baaaack.... Probably not the same bull, unless he's just lost his antlers, but I was just disturbed from my book by a moose walking up my driveway (triggering the motion detector lights), and past my front door, walking over my front step and doormat. And another one standing next to my wife's Jeep, munching on the bushes in her flowerbed.

I just looked again, and they seem to have moved along. It's kind of interesting to me, because while there are a lot of moose in Anchorage, I haven't seen very many of them in this neighborhood in the 8 years we have lived here. It's too well lit, and there is a fair amount of traffic. Maybe they are just now getting the word that the Samoans that used to be next door are gone, and are less worried about becoming barbecue. Not a safe bet, since another one of my neighbors was in on the harvest of no less than 3 this year alone.

I bet they just escaped from a biochemistry lab where researchers were using them to test an experimental drug on Alzheimer's. Now they're communicating, hunting in packs, and hunting for sport.

It's a trap.
And may I say, from a moral point of view, I think there can be no justification for shoving snack cakes up your action.

Is moose season still open? If so, you should stick one with an arrow; I would. Screw the city ordanance. Get your winter's meat.
That's a lot of moose burgers, stew, and jerky. :)

Here's a NJ bear update: The scheduled bear hunt went ahead as scheduled this week. It started on Monday, and nearly 300 were taken on the first day. Almost another hundred on the second day.

And today there was a pro-hunt story in my local paper that stressed how in NJ bears are encroaching on suburbs not the other way around (Morris edition of the Star Ledger). It also mentioned how wildlife has gotten used to man over the past few decades and lost its fear, and pointed out that fearless deer are only a danger to your garden but fearless bears are (yes) dangerous. Amazing.

From what I can recall someone from NJ Fish&Game, they're gonna have to remove at least that many from the Northern part of the state(North of 80 - West of 287) where most of the bear incidents the last coupla years have taken place) - all told I think he said something like 800-1000 bears at the minimum have to go - there's something like 3500 in the entire state.
