Makes me less than delighted with the compact 8x25 Leupold I got recently. Though I use those more frequently (carry in my vehicle door pocket) and am satisfied with them for daily surf check use.

7X50 or 10X50 are what I used in the tower on a daily basis. Various manufacturers. Most worked great until colimation got knocked out of alignment.

That's a 3mm exit pupil on the Leupolds, which is why I don't care for relatively high powered compact binos. Not much use in dim light. The 8x56 Burrises, on the other hand, yield a 7mm pupil, which is great, max for most people, in fact.

Maybe even overkill. 7mm is a good guideline for young healthy fully dilated eyes.

This thread is bad. Every time I see it, I start to get the urge to replace my binoculars- which are a fairly low-end porro prism 7x35 pair I got as a graduation present. From elementary school. They're still intact after nearly 30 years, but they leave much to be desired.

Anyone have any opinions on these? (Pentax has a pretty good rep, but this is a relatively new model and I've only been able to find one review of it online. It was pretty glowing, but you know how easy it is to get some random schmoe on the 'net to give you a good review.)

No opinion on those particular Binos, but I am very happy with the quality and price of my Pentax Gameseeker riflescopes.

As for a reliable opinion, I suggest you give Doug or Neil at www.cameralandny.com a call, tell them Denis at theGunCounter.com sent you, and ask them what they think of the Pentax binos. I have always got very candid and fair advice from them, to the extent that you can tell them your needs and budget, and they'll offer a best fit solution.

I note they also have those same binos cheaper than Amazon, plus there is a mail-in rebate until the end of the month.
