Polo would fit the bill. Or, if you REALLY hate collars, a henley can be fairly professional. Certainly beats a T-shirt.

What I wear every workday, because they're cheap, and no shirt lasts more than a year with me.

I looked all through my closet and couldn't find a tie. I guess I'll have to go to Wally World and see what they have in the way of cheap ties. Next time I go into the Mercedes/Smart Car dealership I want a tie to go with my bath robe, T-shirt, Slippers, base ball cap, clip on sun glasses, and full size catheter bag. That small leg bag is just an accident waiting to happen.

Forget the tie, and go with a Cravet. Much classier. :ugeek:

Of course, you're still not dressed for a MB/BMW dealership. You're now properly attired for a RR/Bugatti/Bently though. The Super Rich are expected to be a bit weird.

They're actually fairly popular with RVers with Class A motorhomes, as they're so small. I've seen them put on special cargo racks, and even in one case, inside the RV itself.

A tip on the Hawaiian shirt thing (having just PCS'ed from there): Tommy Bahama silk shirts are generally woven such that they lay more 'normally' and don't look like bad 80's 'silk shirts' that stick when you sweat. And if you look for ones with subtle or subdued patterns, they work fine every day instead of just on Hawaiian shirt fridays.

I only have ONE shirt that has a "Hawaiian" print on it... and it's of WWII aircraft. :P

What I'd like in a shirt would be this:
-Looks at least somewhat professional, but is durable enough I wouldn't worry about wearing it to mow the lawn
-Stays cool in the summer
-Dries fast, because I sweat like a whore in church, and I live in the south.
-Is machine washable
-Is not in a "rescue me!" color, like a lot of camping and hiking shirts.
-Long enough to cover an IWB pistol
-Semi-fitted so it's not a bag

I already have trouble buying pants because of the size of my legs. Kuhl's Athletik fit are the only ones that don't look like skinny jeans on me. I think that I've cracked that nut, because they can look good, and I finally wore through mine after four years of mostly constant wear. Now if they'd make the pockets deeper, they would be perfect.

I'm just looking to not look like such a slob when I go someplace where a t-shirt isn't quite appropriate. Anyone have suggestions of specific products?
You've rather precisely described the humble polo shirt, in 100% cotton pique knit, available in every color of the rainbow, and from such fine upscale merchants as Le Boutique Tarzhey and Le Mart du Wall, all the way up to Nordstrom's, with the iconic Ralph Lauren mallet-swinging horseman, and such dedicated purveryors of Tactical tomfoolery as 5.11.

A) wear t shirts under your polo. Or a ribbed undershirt. Really helps w the sweat.

B) So does a straw hat.

C) Yeah. Pretty much talking about a polo.

The "tactical" ones are OK - or have a local shop modify polis you like.

Button down shirts do look much older. I prefer them, but after a few cervical fractures there are days I can't stand any pressure on my neck.
