Re: gun lube
I have a one quart bottle of lightweight Mobil One and a tub of high temp bearing grease. Haven't had any problems.
Note to self: start reading sig lines. They're actually quite amusing. :D

I use synthetics exclusively, and Hoppys and WD40 for clean up.

Re: gun lube
I use a powdered teflon for polymer stuff, I've had it for years. I use a light machine oil for everything else. Never thought about Lubriplate. I've got half a tube or so in the garage for engine building. May have to try it on a gun.

It's funny how the answer changes depending on who and when you ask. There have been threads here in the past wherein the participants devoted many lines of text to extolling the virtues of any number of wonder lubes, including some mentioned in this thread.

Re: gun lube
I dream of a wonder lube, but I'm not sure I believe in one, so I don't tend to extol them.
I read about some coating from Brownells that goes on dry and is supposed to smooth out or slick up the surface somehow. I've always wanted to try that just for fun. Who knows? Maybe that one will crap Skittles.

edit to add to the above Slipstream note:
I use my mix of Ed's Red for general cleaning, wipe down etc. The Slipstream goes in the action/trigger group, either the oil or grease where appropriate.

Re: gun lube
I bought a bottle of Slipstream. I can't tell that it works any better than any other lube; it is more of a pain in the ass because you have to shake it for a long time to get all of the particles into suspension. When it is gone I will most likely just go back to CLP for everything.

Re: gun lube
It slicked up a couple pieces for me real nice. In particular an AR that always sounded really rocky when manually cycled. My Franchi I12 really smoothed out to the ear and by feel. Each time I clean and lube the AR, the quieter and slicker it gets.
The shelf life on lubed pieces is the best I've found thus far. I'm always "aging" a couple pieces on the shelf after cleaning then will run them til fail. Usually my 1911's and one of my BHP's would have some sort of minor feed malfunction after several (or 5) mags if I'd let them set a few months after cleaning before running them again. I've let them (4 pieces) all go a full year "drying out" on the shelf and then run a stack of mags 50+ rounds through using the same loads (handloads with Unique) with none of the fails I've _always_ had before after 20-30 rds. To the naked eye they look dry after sitting that long. Seems there is something to the claims that the oil/grease is just a carrier and the real lube properties are in the particles which persist even when dry.

Re: gun lube
I bought the slipstream oil and grease recently. I've only put a tiny bit of the grease on the bolt of a new .22lr bolt action. I guess it's good, but time will tell. I've got a slightly wonky AR to try it on next.

I've got a large bottle of CLP and use one of Hoppe's newer formulas for cleaning. It seems to do all right.
Remember, folks, you can't spell "douche" without "Che."
