Is there some problem with lead contacting the skin? I'm not being facetious here, just unaware that simple contact is a problem. (Ingestion, yeah, I get that). Plus, I load lots of lead bullets every year and while I'm careful when casting and tumbling, I've never really been concerned with simple contact when loading.
The reason I ask is that for years hereabouts there was an old-wives remedy for avoiding poison ivy, and that was to wear a lead sinker on a string around the neck. Lots of folks I know would do that and it seemed to guard against the poison ivy rash.

Eh, up to a half-inch one isn't that bad. It's once you get to the huge ones where it's super gross.

Brass isn't suitable for piercings, I think you'll need to do what Denis said and get them plated.
I think there is still possibly some risk involved - can't you come up with a non piercing application ?

The way gauge wearers work their way up in size, I got a mental picture of them moving up to say, howitzer shells in their ears.

Don't know if it will work or not, but Grainger sells an array of heat shrinking Teflon - works well at protecting wires in 500 degree environments.

I find it generally a good idea to be less distinguishable..Greg wrote:Lost souls looking to establish SOME kind of identity and belong to something, even if they have to borrow someone else's markings.
