I had some fun with Beyond the Red Line (the BSG mod Jericho941 referenced above). This looks interesting; doubt my hardware is fully up to the job, but I'll keep it in mind.

Nice find! Last space sim I tried was a fan-made Battlestar Galactica mod for Freespace. It was... well. Good effort. But borderline unplayable.

Pirating noobs can be a great source of tears, you can play Without spreadsheets.
I've never found another game that had that much pvp on that many levels and the developers encourage griefing to an amazing level. I relapsed two months ago and put a spy into a newer player corp(clan). War decked them with an alt corp and got my main coerp to war dec them. It's funny typing in tactical intel to my corp that I'm hearing on ventrilo.... Posting chats to my corps message board. There were many tears and several hundred dollars of ships destroyed. But then little girl born and so back on the wagon.
I will also say that the percentage of players that are current or former military is probably better than 30%.

I still keep a good flight stick around. But I must admit I liked the way you could fly by mouse in Freelancer.

Its a fan made Freespace 2 version of a Wing Commander III era game. Be warned its a 3GB download.
