Omaha banned all grills on apartment decks back in the 80's. Some clown fired one up on a second floor balcony with a entire can of lighter fluid sprayed on the charcoal. Flames started bottom of the third story balcony on fire and attempts to put it out dumped flaming debris on the first floor's patio, catching their store of charcoal and lighter fluid on fire. 6 apartments and 2 alarms later...HTRN wrote:He lives in a condo. OK, that makes more sense.HTRN wrote:He lives in a condo. The condo board apparently banned them after some dumbass did something stupid that cost the condo board money.
However, used properly, an electric grill should be quite safe. It's what Mrs. Termite and I used in the apartment we lived in, right after we got married.

Re: welding project
Sorry got tied up today.
Gas grills are allowed. Electric grills are allowed. Any charcoal burners are out, any smoker of any type is out, chimnea, fire bowls, and fire pits are out
We bought a propane grill and have been using it a lot.

Re: welding project
Saw another interesting project idea.
Take this pickup bed crane: here
Weld it to a heavy duty hitch tube that fits into a 2" receiver (probably using some extra gussets between the tube and the crane's bottom plate), and drill for hitch pin as appropriate for the vehicle in use (currently my Jeep Liberty).
Instant general purpose (trans)portable crane, much more compact than an engine cherry picker. Limited by the tongue weight of the hitch itself, but: if you use it and then either put a jack stand or the vehicle jack under the hitch to support it, I bet you could use the full crane capacity safely in a fixed location. Granted that can't be done while moving but it would allow moving some moderately heavy objects just the same.
I'm going to see if it can lift high enough to pull the engine from the Challenger; I have NO room for a real cherry picker, and renting one for the day costs more than buying one from harbor freight (and would be a bear to transport). If it would not lift high enough to pull the engine out, I bet it WOULD be enough to lift the Challenger body off the K-frame and let me pull the whole assembly out from underneath (at which point I'd need those trailer jack assemblies I mentioned at the beginning to hold the body off the ground).

Or integrate a drop down foot/stand to support the base.

Heh, maybe a trailer jack with a wheel on the bottom... I may be buying those by the case soon.blackeagle603 wrote:Or integrate a drop down foot/stand to support the base.

Re: welding project
yeah I was visualizing one of those "flip down on a pivot and pin" trailer jacks. Or a hi-lift bumper jack.
