That new one is an improvement over the Eurovan but still isn't ugly enough to satisfy this old VW nuts heart.

They finally got the powertrain right in their vans with the Audi engine. However, the EV completely lost contact with what a VW van is about. Totally wasted/lost the vibe.

The split wound up calling Fairbanks home after I traded it to a young A&P student boarding with us who moved north after school.

They peaked with the the design on the Vanagon. We burned that Brick's engine compartment up in the driveway due to a leaking fuel injector line. Fire dept was called to finish dousing the fire (I wasn't home, it was my wife with wee ones). Rebuilt it over a month of weekends and trips to wrecking yards. Drove it long time after. Great driving vehicle, great interior layout/utility + badly engineered waterboxer engine. I would love to have a Brick with a TDI. If they just brought that style vehicle back with a proper engine and a TDI option they'd sell like crazy.

Someone I know ( although I haven't seen him for a couple of years ) actually owns a Kubelwagen. He's also got a Mauser 98k and has a big tattoo of a spider on his shaved head. He looks like he's straight out of American History X or Romperstomper.

I hate those VW busses. Back when I was a teenager I was working for this scary outlaw biker guy who dealt in motorcycle parts and that was his mode of transport for a while. What a piece of junk, we would forever be fixing something on it. The stupid thing fell to pieces about once a week, I really don't know why he stuck with it.
He called it Hitlers final revenge on the Allies, the V-3 ( which was actually some sort of rocket propelled artillery piece to be pedantic ) - if we can't win the war then we'll sell you a shit vehicle instead.

Probably about as long as the PT Cruiser. I don't see many of those on the road now.

Actually the Cruiser had a very successful 10 year run. Yeah sales dropped off the last year or two, but they still built 1.35 million of them. That new VW does look like an oversized Soul however. Expect a year or two of people leasing them simply for the "new" factor(gotta have the newest fad car), then sales will die off.
