Re: Wii - Any Reviews?
Wii games like bowling are becoming fairly popular at assisted living and retirement facilities too. I don't know if that can be seen as a recommendation or not.

Well, my wife's had low back surgery and has been told he has a "flat tire" in her spine, and I've had four knee surgeries and use a cane. Besides, I don't DANCE, so Dance Dance Revolution is definitely out - you know like when Leonidas tells Xerxes there will be no bowing down on his knees, he's got bad knees, so that will definitely be out.
Looks like they have adult games besides fitness stuff; Brothers in Arms, Off Road Racing, Ferrari Challenge, Iron Man, WWII Aces, etc.

Fair enough, although it should be stated that there's really no dancing whatsoever in DDR. You're just pressing the buttons on the pad with your feet in time with the cues on the screen. Still, given what you've said here it's definitely out.308Mike wrote:Well, my wife's had low back surgery and has been told he has a "flat tire" in her spine, and I've had four knee surgeries and use a cane. Yeah, but these are all basically watered-down versions of games you can get better versions of on other consoles, or for the PC. The Wii might be worth it for Wii Fit, so if that's the dealbreaker for you I'd go with the Wii. But otherwise (especially if you've got an HD TV) I'd go with a different platform.Looks like they have adult games besides fitness stuff; Brothers in Arms, Off Road Racing, Ferrari Challenge, Iron Man, WWII Aces, etc.

if you want a game system that will have you sitting on your ass wiggling your thumbs, then the Wii is not for you
The Wii will make you move around, at least a little bit

Re: Wii - Any Reviews?
A friend was lusting after one for quite some time. In addition to saving for tuition, books, etc. for the upcoming semester, she also put $10-$20 in a jar every paycheck. She had a Wii in short order.
Her inspiration? The 60-70ish year old couple across the street, playing Wii in their living room, looked like they were having som much damned fun.
I say go for it.

Another reason we want to get a Wii is because our niece and nephew would love to come over and use it and give my brother a break so he can get stuff done without having to watch his kids - they'll be over here.

Emphasis on "a little bit." I've never played a Wii game (other than Wii Sports) where I actually felt compelled to get out of my seat. Otherwise it was just sitting there wiggling the Wiimote instead of thumbsticks.mekender wrote:if you want a game system that will have you sitting on your ass wiggling your thumbs, then the Wii is not for you

Really for a good console comparison there's always this. (Language warning)
That's a pretty good reason to get the Wii, especially given all the kid game titles out for it.308Mike wrote:Another reason we want to get a Wii is because our niece and nephew would love to come over and use it and give my brother a break so he can get stuff done without having to watch his kids - they'll be over here.
Basically I'd say to go for it but don't buy into the hype that it's some kind of miracle machine.
