I live in an apartment in an urban area.
I keep a Sig 9mm bedside for unexpected visitors and checking out noises in the middle of the night. It's easier to conceal and less likely to startle the neighbors. If I know there's trouble, I'll take the Mossberg 12 gauge loaded with 00 buck.

I use an AR because the Army has made me extremely comfortable with it, but I'm aware it's not the best choice, there are people living fairly close. I don't have a shotty set up for HD at the moment though. With the corners and stairs the way they are at my house, a handgun would really be best, but that's a non-option. I have a feeling that were my home ever invaded, there is really only a very small set of circumstances that I would, and could safely fire.

+1 on the canine security system. I refer to mine as the four-legged early warning system. He's very friendly, but barks at everything...especially at night. That's fine with me. I don't want a Cujo, just a head's up.
There must be an end to this intimidation by those who come to this great country, but reject its culture.

15 rounds? Split up into how many magazines? That seems an odd number to me, for some reason.Lokidude wrote:There's a loaded .30-06 in my closet, but God save me if I need 15 rounds of '06 for anything.

I have the 9mm full sized on my night stand.
the GF has MY .40 full sized in her night stand.
Shotgun in the closet loaded with #4 buck -- with 00 and rifled slugs in the bandolier (just in case)
The gun safe is now decorating the living room (at her suggestion) so I no longer have quick access to the SKS. But by the time I unload the 9mm / she unloads the .40 / and I unload 5 rounds of #4 buck, 2 rounds of 00 buck and 3 slugs ... what ever invaded the house BETTER be down.

2, in a Remington 760. An aftermarket 10 rounder that's proven surprisingly reliable, the factory 4 rounder, and one halfway run into the chamber. It's a pretty effective little boomstick, and runs pretty quick.Aegis wrote:15 rounds? Split up into how many magazines? Almost bought one, but the shop that had the 760 was closed and I ended up with a Savage. I do love the Savage but I will always wonder what might have been...Lokidude wrote:2, in a Remington 760. We are WAY out in the sticks at the end of a mile-and-a-half dirt road. My little wolf-pack
is my early warning system, but we also have motion detectors coupled to floodlights on the
houses and barn. I keep a Stevens 311 12-guage double loaded with #4 shot by the bed and
a S&W 9MM in the bedside table. The long arms are in the closet nearby; the 98 Mauser is
kept loaded and the bayonet fixed.
My sister has a Luger and a carbine at her house.
Hardly anybody knows we're down here except the Sheriff and the UPS man.
