That's the main reason I bought a fire-resistant file cabinet for my ammo. It's amazing how much a 4 drawer unit can hold.

As for me, I just could never see myself buying one, at least for myself, because I like ammo boxes that are more practical in that they are somewhat larger and hold a few more than 50 rounds.

+1 to Glenn. I can't see a reason for spending actual money on fancy little ammo boxes. I spend mine on 50 cal and 30 cal military surplus cans - 50 cal for storage and 30 cal for range trips.

Any lib that thinks that one cmpany's product justifies restrictions on the masses needs a cranial-rectal inversion.

This companie's stuff is pretty and not necessarily meant for day to day shooting. We've talked about them before IIRC. Their stuff is for show displays and niche use. If I were to go on a once in a lifetime trip I might look at them.

I have seen ammo fires before in training flims meant for fire departments and shown to me during Firearms' Instructor training, and I have seen and one live fire with ammo going off.

In the training films some of the ammo, at one of the fires, was kept in ammo cans. That fire posed no more of a threat, probably less than did the other fires where ammo was just stored in the manufacturers cartons, because the bullets never made it out of the metal ammo cans. The point of the films was that when ammo burns off it does not go off like a bomb. There are plenty of little pops as each individual round goes off, at least based on what I have seen. Of course, loose powder is a different story. Ammunition cans were not made to hold and store loose gunpowder.

I know that such info, like what I just mentioned above, is ever changing based on new info out there. So if you have some info showing otherwise with regard to ammunition stored in ammo cans actually posing an explosive threat please let me know the source. I would like to inform the primary firearms instructor on my job about it and would like to be educated more myself on the subject when considering how to store my ammunition.

While I haven't seen them explode, I have seen the results of one fire when our platoon truck caught on fire from a rocket. Luckily the truck was between two grain storage bins made of concrete, but a bunch of the cartridges fired off straight out of the can and impacted the wall several yards away.

Granted, it was 7.62 NATO linked and unopened, so perhaps that it was all packed neatly and linked that gave it enough pressure to fly out with some force.
