I liked the Monty Python idea. Sending scientists to Antarctica to live like penguins (and subsequently dieing like penguins, only faster.) That would be something worth turning on the TV for.

I saw the preview and then recorded it as I was eating dinner. Seems the premise of the show should be if there was a virus that wiped out everyone but engineers, biologists, handymen, mechanics and other useful people.

If it were to be realistic you would have a 7-11 clerk, a shoe salesman, housewife, bus driver, teenager, collage student studying art history, an IT/gamer geek and an engineer or nurse of some type.

It wasn't terrible, but it is certainly flawed.

The "marauders" aren't scary, since there's no threat of death. The shiny bikes made them look less "Mad Max" and more "Yuppie in a temper tantrum".

The people were acting. How scared could they have been at 3am, when somebody they knew couldn't hurt them wasbanging on the door? And why would they pick up a 1/4" dowel for protection?

I'll watch it again, but I doubt I'll stay interested all season.

I didn't watch it, but I noticed in the original post that DHS was involved with it. That would explain the nonthreatening marauders and defending yourself with a wooden dowel.

:jacked:

I finally watched Jericho in full as I had never seen an episode. I'm convinced the only reason the show was canceled is DHS didn't like the direction it took or the way it was headed at season end.

Or the rating were crap.

Meh. Eight years of the Bush Hitler comments have pushed me down the low road in response, but stirring up dung can be fun at times.

They'd never let people like us (he and I, at the time, but the Guncounter crew in broad acceptance now) on that show. Simply put, we have skills, they couldn't film us whining about no food, no fire, no shelter. We'd make for horrible TV. Within 48 hours, with minimal supplies, anybody worth keeping alive in that situation should have some sort of shelter, some breed of food and water, and a fire. It's really not that difficult to come up with a workable version of the basics.
Hell, they wouldn't let anyone who had spent more than 6 months as a Boy Scout! Some of that stuff isn't that hard, no matter how you dress it up with goofy music and stupid competitions.
The use of the word "but" usually indicates that everything preceding it in a sentence is a lie.

Same problem as SERE training, no matter how much of a jackhole the folk running the thing are, at the end of the day, you still go home alive and intact.

...but still they had me hallucinating in less than 24 hours of solitary and interrogation stress. Granted that was after a week of E&E, no food and nightly rousting/gunfire by the Pronies walking through our BLISS shelters.
