How many tactical/sniper/LR precision scopes are more then 24x? They don't need to resolve down to seeing a bullet hole at 600 yds but they need to be able to see in low light conditions, hence the 50mm and 56mm lens on their scopes...

I think I've found a use for that 30MOA base rail that my brother has...

They're not the first to go with such a huge lens, US Optics has their SN9 10-42x56mm standard scope comes with as an 80mm version as well and that is being mounted on Priscella, the purple poodle eater...

I've used a 40x scope on my 100 BR rifles and switched it down to a 36x then to a 32x and now it wears a 24x for hot days and the 32x for cool/cloudy days...but they're all 40mm or 45mm...

I'm wanting to build a 50 yd rimfire BR gun and having problems putting a scope on it, 15/16x is a little too light/weak and 20x is just a little too heavy/strong...What I really need is an old Unertl 18x 2" target scope but there goes any chance of making weight class...Better a little more then a little less, so it'll probably be the 20x...

I only use fixed powers on my short distance rifles...My 300 yd and 1K yd rifles wear variables to reduce mirage effect and one 200 has a fixed (6mm PPC) and the other a variable (.22 PPC) but that's to help see the bullet holes...

Both the 408 Cheytac and the 416 Barrett are possibly capable of hitting a 4 foot square at 3500 yards - remember, somebody shot a 3 shot group of 16&5/8" @ 2321 yards with a .408 not so long ago.. The problem is, that in the case of the Cheytac at least, it goes transonic at roughly that distance. the Barrett goes transonic a bit further out, considering it's higher velocity and BC.

Still, it's a definite possibility.

We'll find out in a couple of months...Priscella is all painted, scope mounted and sighted in to ¼MOA at 100M, computer worked up the dial-ups, there's 300 rounds loaded and another 200 bullets waiting to replace those...Final weight with the 100cm (39.4") barrel is 29.5KG (65.3 lbs)...

Just waiting for seasons end and I'll be down at a friends farm that's infested with prairie poodles and has a nice little 120M high overlook to five miles of open prairie...He went out there placing the 6' green and white 4x4 stakes at 3K, 3.25K, 3.4K, 3.5K, 3.6K and 3.7K into the middle of the dog town so they'll be used to them, there's always been a picnic table up there but he moved it and leveled it just by the edge of the "plateau" so we're ready to go...

The only fear that I have is the the 120 minutes of elevation on the scope will be enough on a 25 MOA base or if I'm going to have to mount them on "skyscraper" mounts...The computer says yes but let's see what the real world says...

She looks like this but with a longer barrel and in a deep purple fading to light purple at the forearm and with lime green accents and her name spelled out on the butt...

For those new to the forum, I'm going after a 2 mile kill on rodents...I got inspired by this article in Accurate Rifle Magazine...Quest for the 2 mile prairie dog
You should read it, quite interesting and those are the skyscraper mounts I mentioned...

I think I found a couple of guns to do it:
This weekend at an FCSA event Lee Rasmussen set a new .50 record at 1,000 yards with a 5 shot group 1.95 inches. That is between .1 and .2 MOA with a 5 shot group!
That and the .338 Xtreme Tactical Rifle further down in that post.

I actually would kinda like to see a 20mm match grade bullet.

I'd be happy with them coming out with 50 caliber SMK VLDs, along with ones in .375, .408, and .416

Now if only we can convince Lapua and/or Norma to start making 50 Bmg brass. :D
