Slightly related to the "Accedent" thread, I have been looking around for some more practical shooting glasses. Since I need Rx lenses, in high perscriptions, this limits the possibilities a bit.
Using ordinary glasses does work, but it's not really optimal, they are not designed to withstand much, and if some accident should happen I'd like better protection. Also, it's the only pair I have, and if something should happen to them I'm pretty much blind until I can get a spare. Without glasses, it's not only illegal but virtually impossible for me to drive anywhere to get help, not to mention to work or anything else useful.
Contact lenses or eye surgery is of course an option, but since I'm on the higher end of corrective lenses I'm not sure how good they would be, so that's not what I'm looking for right now. (I used to have contact lenses years ago, but had to give them up.)
So I have been looking around for a good solution, and I ran across Rudy Project Exception. A Swedish IPSC competitor recommends them, and they look like something I could use for both shooting, fishing(they offer polaroids!), other sports, and even as a spare for my own glasses, using just the corrective lenses.
Anyone know anything about them, good or bad? I allready know that the price is pretty bad, but if I can use them for all sports, as well as fishing, and as a spare for my ordinary glasses, I'd get a lot of use out of them.
Anyone know about Rudy Project?

I don't know anything about them, but it sounds like you are their best salesman for you. Reading it, I think you're looking for reasons NOT to get them. I can't help you there.

Yeah, probably. The price is probably the best reason NOT to.
Basically, I dont mind paying a lot of money for quality, but Rx glasses is one of those things where you cant really try and test them out before you buy, since the Rx inserts are made on your order. You have to buy on faith and hope they work out. Unless you know people that allready use them.
I'm having a feeling I'll be dragging this out as long as possible, until I cant come up with enough reasons NOT to, and then probably end up buying them, once I got the money to spare.

Do they not have some empty frames you can use with contacts?
That would at least tell you if the frame will obstruct you view of your sights, or if they will fail to provide assistance in focusing when looking through them.

Very few stores in this country seem to have them, but just recently I was in a store that specialixes in sports eyeware, and I did get to try them on.FastRope71 wrote:Do they not have some empty frames you can use with contacts?

I dont have contacts, but I could still get an idea with field of view, and the frame is not in the way at all. Problem is that with as strong perscriptions as I have, you still dont know for certain how they work until you used them for a while, and with these the lenses are curved, so they need to be adapted for that too. The optician insisted on checking my eyes himself, so he knew it would be right for those glasses.
Otherwise they felt great, you could feel it was quality, they felt solid and not as flimsy as I thought they might be. Still thinking about it though.

Bite the bullet and get LASIK. They corrected for my astigmatism and fixed my 20/400 vision eye.

Been thinking about eye surgery for years, ever since the russians started doing it. (using scalpels, not lasers) But eye surgery never seemed to be a good option for higher perscriptions, like mine.
But just to be sure I checked now, and according to what I can google both LASIK and LASEK is only suitable up to -6.0D. I need higher corrections than that.
I might look into contacts though. I had to give them up years ago, but since they improved them they might work now.

These are what I used when I was in the service:
http://store.oldgrouch.biz/mitaeyfr.html
For more stylish eyewear, I'm considering these:

I have Zeiss shooting glasses right now. They are fine for shooting, but the large lenses sit far enough from my face that I have problems with eye relief with binos. My day-to-day prescription glasses have smaller lenses, so sit closer to my face, so binos work better. On hunts, I find myself using my 'office' glasses, but I worry about how much protection I would get if I had a 'kaboom'.
I'm hoping the Wiley X tactical glasses will sit close enough that I can use binos better, yet still give me ballistic protection.
If I had perfect vision, I would still use glasses for safety.
