I needed a cheek rest on my Mech-Tech CCU (which has the metal stock, no pads or inserts). I bought a thick padded steering wheel cover, and used it around a short section of foam pipe insulation (the stuff you can buy in 3' lengths, slit lengthwise). Works fine, but I'm looking for something more permanent.

Does it work? Don't complain...Some Bubba stuff is great...

We had at the old site a Bubba, Kitchen table tactical, WECSOG thread...

I used two rolled up hand towels secured with an Ace (?) bandage (the stretchy kind used for sprains) and the metal clips that come with it...FYI, if you have a beard, especially a close trimmed one or a very long one do not use the Ace bandage route as every time I raised my head I'd yank out some of the hairs...

After my second range trip I removed my CCU's fixed wire stock with a cutoff wheel. Replaced it with a "pig's snout" adapter from Ace Ltd, which accepts an AR buffer tube and buttstock. Mine is currently fitted with a AR collapsible stock, though I'd like to replace that with Ace's ultralight AR stock.

Felix,

Don't get the Alabama Chrome too hot or it'll slip and the sticky stuff will get on the outside. Then, much like SeekHer's Ace bandage, facial hair will become painfully extracted from your skin.

What did you use for the cheek piece? Just rolled up tape? I see you taped the sling swivels. The gray looks good with the composite stock. My Walnut stocked M1A has camo duct tape on the sling swivels. So does my Garand. Those swivels are surprisingly noisy w/o the tape.

Let us know how it holds up to live fire.

Sure it works. It's an 8" section of "Ridge Rest" (foam pad) rolled up, and duct tape. Works great!

A section of rolled up "Ridge Rest" (foam camping pad).

Here is my OST cheek pad on my AK. I made it from an OD sleeping pad from the surplus store, cut and shaped it with a single edge razor blade, and attached it to the stock with shoe goo. I actually bought a fancy Blackhawk adjustable cheek rest for this rifle, only to find that it couldn't be adjusted to fit the AK stock very well. I think this looks and works better.

Huh? I thought a redneck cheek rest consisted of a squirrel taped to the buttstock!
