03JUL last day at this job after 32.5 years. What a long strange trip it has been.
Voluntary separation package was pretty crazy sweet based on years of service. Looked like a sucker play to stick around and pass on that.
Other opportunities being proposed and pondered. Allows me to shift residence to Texas finally so there's that. Will still be bouncing between TX and CA but establishing residency at our place in TX

That's not exactly how I would have done it but I have signed off worse looking safety wire. My only real criticism is he should have wrapped the wire going around the second bolt head all the way around to the hole and under the other wire and made a half turn to lock the start of the twist there before twisting the tail. I probably would have left a slightly longer tail also.HTRN wrote: ↑Thu Apr 06, 2023 11:38 pm https://youtube.com/shorts/pVsoWY7FZiY?feature=share

Out of curiosity, who do you recommend for safety wire pliers?

The Tigerwave pliers that I like have gone in and out of production and changed design a couple times since I have been in the business and are currently not available. Otherwise probably just the regular Milbars. The Tigerwaves were nice because they had a smooth jaw that didn't mar the wire like the regular ones do. But the actual twist and locking mechanisms have had issues regardless of which version of them you got.
Unless I have a stupid long length of wire to twist, I usually just twist by hand between the fasteners, and only use the actual safety wire pliers to twist the tail. That way the part nicked by the plier jaws gets cut off anyway. There will usually be a regular needle nose involved in pulling the wire tight. Slot tip screwdriver to push wires into the right position, whatever.

First thing our A&P instructors did was have anyone with safety wire pliers remove them from the premises.
When I enlisted after that and hit the fleet I was consistently grossed out by the safety wire I'd see from airframers with pliers.

Was reading reviews of a chrongraph on Midway just now, and made a point of looking through both the positive and negative reviews... Lots of positive reviews, which mostly appeared to be written by casual shooters about their occasional use of the product. Many of the negative reviews went into great detail about the unit's shortcomings, a few of which were obviously written by some very sophisticated rifle shooters (one of the most damning was along the lines of, chronograph spits out one number, but my dope every 50 yards out to 750 tells a different story). Often the negative reviews of a product will be nonsensical or just the bad luck brigade, but in this case they were well worth reading.
Anyway, the thing that left me shaking my head, is all of the people who gave a "thumbs down" to the reasoned, well written negative reviews. 1) I don't understand what the point is of having that functionality in the review section in the first place, and 2) Why would you even do that?

Nope. The guys would consistently go crazy with pliers and twist too tight, overshoot have to unwrap and thread through holes etcNetpackrat wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2023 11:30 pmYou know you did that backwards, right?blackeagle603 wrote:
