Look at the Model 16 FCSS, has accu-trigger, accu-stock, stainless barrel, and an MSRP of $911. If you can't find it for $200 less than that, let me know.
ETA: There's one on Gunbroker right now, $700, no reserve. Just sayin'.

In the day on EST, I used to shoot a Rem 700 all maxed out in .308. We used to shoot golf balls at 100 yds for beer. I now have a Savage 110 in 30/06 and have taken a bunch of deer and one elk with it. Then again, my ophthalmologist and I are on a first name basis now. I like it.

Six ounces is four ounces too heavy.rightisright wrote:I know HTRN doesn't like the accutrigger. But it's not meant to be a 6 ounce benchrest trigger.HTRN wrote: Pesonally? I'd look at BVSS, and replace the trigger, and do a bedding job.

You might be able to handle a 2-oz. trigger, but most folks need at least two lbs., and three lbs. is better. More important than weight is how clean it breaks, and how much take-up and over-travel it has.
My hunting rifles are 2.5-3 lbs, and I've set the triggers on the Minions' rifles at 3 lbs exactly, but with minimum take-up and practically no over-travel (gotta have a little, but most triggers have WAY too much of both).

I really prefer plenty of take-up. Then again, I grew up on 2-stage triggers like in the M1 and 1903/03A3. Single stage triggers still feel weird.First Shirt wrote:You might be able to handle a 2-oz. trigger, but most folks need at least two lbs., and three lbs. is better. I think I've landed on First Shirt's Savage 16 FCSS recommendation. It was the Accustock that tipped me. After taxes, it won't be $200 less than MSRP out the door. The gunbroker item would have been about $760 after shipping and transfer - the OK one, not the WA one. I like to keep money as close to home as possible. I called a local shop I like about the transfer, and asked what they could get one for. They settled on $790 out the door. My rule of thumb is I'll allow local guys 5% for being local and having brick and mortar. This is 4%, so I'm 95% sure I'm going there at lunch to order it.
From what I can tell, this should take any game I'm likely to go after at any range I'm likely to be able to take a shot. For fun on the range, how far out would you guys expect this to be good on a man-size target? 400 yards?
Now to look for glass recommendations.

Note to self: start reading sig lines. They're actually quite amusing. :D

Agreed. One of the reasons I like the accutrigger is because depressing that trigger flange mimics taking up the slack in a normal two-stage.NVGdude wrote:I really prefer plenty of take-up. I have a single-stage in my .35 Whelen and I'm not a fan. If I ever actually decide to start using it again I'll probably change the trigger.

Weet, I've got a couple extra mags that should fit that, although they are blued, not stainless. Let me know if you need one.

One of the reasons I switched from Savage to my Mauser was I love the basic Mauser two stage trigger. The trigger on the Savage (pre-accutrigger) was serviceable, but no where near as good.JKosprey wrote:Agreed. I've not really shot the accutrigger, so to the degree it mimics a two stage trigger it is probably a good thing, but I would rather go with a good two stage.
