Spartan-15 Enhanced Billet build

Post by Candyman »

I had my eye on the Spartan lower at JoBob Outfitters for a while. So a few weeks ago I ordered one for a new build.
When I picked it up, WOW! This is one cool looking lower with some cool features.

Image

It has a threader pin for the bolt catch, which makes it simple to instal.
Image

There's a threaded plug for the reat take down pin plunger spring.
Image

It has a set screw that can be adjusted to put tension on the bottom of the rear stud of the upper, if needed.
Image

I had to wait almost two weeks to get the matching upper
Image

The upper and lower matched up great with almost no play.

Some think that Billet uppers are not worth the money and others clame that they are better because they are stronger.
Now I carried the M16A1 and the A2 all oer the world and never broke an upper or lower. Now I did bend a barrel and crack the stock on an A1, but that's another story.
If you need a reason for buying a Billet lower or upper, here is the best one. Their COOL! 8-)

I needed a barrel and my buddy over at Integral Arms sold me a Black Nitride carbine barrel in 223 Wylde 1/9 for $100.

I was going to use a Carbin fiber handguard, but changed my mind when it came in. I'm waiting on a 15 inch rail to come in now.
Now I need to find the buttstock I want.

I have already coated the bolt catch, safety lever, forward assist, dust cover and mag catch with Aluma Hyde II flat black, and it matches the gun great.

So happy to see manufacturers modding lowers to make the takedown pin detent and spring captive. The bolt catch pin replacement is cool too. Haven't seen that one yet.

They're pretty, and some nice assembly-easing features too.

Why the 203 barrel pattern?

Not sure about this one, but the least expensive barrels always seem to come in whatever the most common profile happens to be at the moment.

M4 profile barrels made to mil-spec have the forword cut for the 203. There are some barrels without the cut but most of them are heave barrels. Now if you go with a mid-length barrel the sight is mounted approx. two inches forward and does not have the 203 cut.

I changed my mind about the carbon fiber hand guard and decided to go with a 15" Key-Mod rail. I also ordered a Nitride coated gas tube.
Here are some pics I took today.

It's raining but I was able to tak a quick pic outside.

I got a chance to take a good look at the Houge butt stock yesterday and will be going with one in black. I would have gotten it yesterday at the gunshow but the dealer only had the OD green one.

The M203 cut also improves harmonics in some barrels, IIRC, as Bushmaster found out during the ACR fiasco.

Does the nitride coated gas tube promote less build-up of crap???
