Taurus Curve

Post by Rod »

Here's a review of the Taurus Curve, form fitting (cough) gun with a belt clip built in so it's easier to shoot yourself. Introductory model (whatever that is) is supposed to sell for $392. Comments welcome.

From what I'm hearing, they're going to do just that.

Other than that, it looks smooth as a bar of soap, so it should feel good. Lots of custom gunmankers will dehorn a carry piece for you, but the Curve looks like it doesn't have any horns to begin with.

If it shoots good, and is reliable, then it will be a good thing, but I suspect that the curved gun will be a niche piece and may not have a long production life. I grant that it is interesting and seems to be well thought out. the market will decide, though, the market always does. I hope they sell them by the boxcar load.

PawPaw, and others, what do you think of the belt clip as a way to carry though? Truthfully, it looks like they all got drunk one day and said, "Let's see what all we can do with a small carry piece with so many bells and whistles folks will laugh at it."

A gun enthusiast reviewing a gun like this is like a race car driver reviewing a Smart Car. It's not the target market. As much as we'd all like to think everyone who buys a gun will spend the time, effort and money to become proficient, we all know that's not the case. There's a definite place for a "put the red dot on the bad guy and pull this thingy" gun. If the whole package (light, laser and gun itself) is reliable it's a viable weapon, at least no LESS so than any other pocket .380 out there.

As much as I've tried, my wife has no interest in learning to shoot. If/when we move to America a CCW is at the top of my list of things-to-do, and I'd much rather have her carrying one of these (with the caveats above) than relying on the forbearance of criminals if I'm not around.

I WOULD prefer it to have back-up sights, because Murphy's law is always strictly enforced.

As for the belt/pocket clip, I often carry a pocketknife clipped to the inside of my pocket, if the clip is sturdy enough I don't see why not.

Yeah, they aren't marketing this for shooters. Which is okay, because I'd rather see a bunch of people carrying this, than not carrying anything.

The Boss carries a Charter Arms Off-Duty in her purse. At 50 feet, she might as well be throwing a baseball, but at spitting distance, it's the bomb. And because her purse is a part of her anatomy, she will ALWAYS have it with her.

An okay gun that you have with you is better than a perfect gun at home, when you really need a gun.

I carried my PA-63 with an aftermarket Clipdraw for years. Worked fine.

A belt clip is an ancient and honored idea, seen even in caplock pistols occasionally. The idea has been around forever.
